Gymnastics

Contextualization

Gymnastics is a physical activity that has existed in our society for thousands of years and is an integral part of our cultural and sports traditions. It has various types, such as artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatic gymnastics, trampoline gymnastics, and aerobic gymnastics, each with its own characteristics and particularities.

Gymnastics, in its various forms, is an activity that involves strength, flexibility, coordination, body control, and breathing. It is an excellent way to develop physical skills, promote health, develop social skills through teamwork, and also to express feelings and emotions through movement.

In the contemporary world, gymnastics is increasingly valued, both in terms of health and fitness, and as a competitive sports modality. Gymnastics is practiced in schools, gyms, clubs, and is also a fundamental part of the Olympics.

Introduction

This gymnastics project will be an opportunity for you to explore different types of gymnastics, their main characteristics, and the theory behind this fascinating physical activity. You will also have the chance to experiment, practice, and create your own movement sequences, working together towards a common goal. Additionally, you will be able to analyze how gymnastics contributes to physical and mental health and well-being and how it applies in different real-world contexts.

In this project, we will mainly focus on general gymnastics, which is a form of gymnastics that can be practiced by people of all ages, without the need for specialized equipment. General gymnastics includes a variety of activities, such as balances, jumps, turns, rotations, and acrobatics. The idea is for you to explore and combine these different elements, creating your own choreographies.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Composing Gymnastics: From Theory to Practice"

Project Objective:

  1. Learn and explore the theoretical concepts of gymnastics.
  2. Develop teamwork skills through planning, preparing, and presenting a gymnastics sequence.
  3. Relate theory to practice by experimenting and creating gymnastics choreographies.

Detailed Project Description:

The project will be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group will be responsible for planning, preparing, and presenting a 5 to 10-minute gymnastics sequence to their peers, incorporating at least two different elements of gymnastics, such as balances, jumps, turns, rotations, and acrobatics.

Groups will also be responsible for researching gymnastics, focusing on its principles, characteristics, and benefits, and how these relate to the sequence they have created. They will then write a detailed report on this work, including their theoretical research and reflections on the practical experience.

Required Materials:

  • Gymnastics equipment (mats, trampolines, etc.), if available at the school.
  • Computer, tablet, or cell phone for research and report writing.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

  1. Each group starts by researching gymnastics and its fundamental concepts, using the provided material and conducting additional research.
  2. Each group then plans and prepares their gymnastics sequence, ensuring that it includes at least two of the different gymnastics elements mentioned earlier.
  3. Groups practice their sequence, refining it until they are ready to present.
  4. Each group presents their sequence to the class.
  5. After the presentation, each group reflects on the experience, exploring how the gymnastics theory they researched relates to the sequence they created.
  6. Each group prepares a detailed report on the project, which includes:
  • The introduction, in which they contextualize gymnastics and express the project's objective.
  • The development, where they explain the theory behind the topic, detail the activity, indicate the methodology used, and present the results obtained.
  • The conclusion, where they summarize the main points, express the learnings obtained, and draw conclusions about the project.
  • The bibliography, indicating the sources they used to work on the project.

The total duration of the project should be approximately one month, with approximately five to ten hours of work per student during this period.

Project Deliverables:

  1. Presentation of the gymnastics sequence by the group.
  2. Written report, with sections of introduction, development, conclusion, and bibliography. The theoretical information must be based on reliable sources, and the account of the practical experience must be reflective and analytical, connecting theory with practice.
