Net and Wall Sports

Contextualization

Introduction

Hello, young athletes! Welcome to the fascinating world of Net and Wall Sports. These sports are probably familiar to all of you, but did you know that they have a rich history, specific rules, and elaborate techniques? Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Squash, and Padel are some of the sports that are part of this group and are the foundation of our project.

Volleyball is a team sport played on a court divided by a net, where players must hit the ball over the net and try to make it land on the opponent's court, avoiding the other team's players from touching it.

Badminton is also played on a court divided by a net, with rackets and a shuttlecock. The goal is to make the shuttlecock land on the opponent's court, avoiding it from landing on yours.

Tennis, Squash, and Padel are played on a court enclosed by walls and a net in the case of Padel. Players must hit a ball with a racket, trying to make it land on the opponent's court.

Importance

Net and wall sports are excellent for the development of motor skills such as coordination, agility, spatial perception, strength, and endurance. Additionally, they promote socialization, teamwork, respect for rules, and overcoming challenges.

Besides the physical and social benefits, these sports are also very fun and can be practiced throughout life. They can be played with family, friends, or even professionally. Who knows, maybe one of you will become an athlete in these sports in the future?

Contextualization

Net and wall sports are practiced worldwide, both indoors and outdoors. They are an integral part of the culture of many countries and are part of important sports events, such as the Olympics.

In Brazil, volleyball stands out. The Brazilian national team is one of the most successful in history, both in men's and women's categories. The country also excels in tennis, with renowned players like Gustavo Kuerten and Thomaz Bellucci. Badminton, squash, and padel are still growing in the country, but they are gaining more and more fans and practitioners.

Now, let's embark on this challenge and explore more about these incredible sports. Let's get to work, or rather, rackets and balls to work!

Practical Activity

Activity Title

"Traveling through the World of Net and Wall Sports"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is for students to explore and learn more about the different net and wall sports, enhancing their teamwork, communication, time management, research, writing, and creativity skills.

Detailed Project Description

In this activity, each group will be tasked with researching and presenting one of the net and wall sports: Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Squash, or Padel. They must produce informative material (it can be a poster, a brochure, a video, a podcast, a slideshow presentation, etc.) that explains the basic rules, the history of the sport, the main competitions, and curiosities about the chosen sport.

Required Materials

  • Textbooks or reference books
  • Internet access
  • Paper, pens, colored pencils, ruler, glue, scissors (depending on the chosen format for the presentation)
  • Camera or cell phone (if opting to make a video or podcast)

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

  1. Group Formation and Sport Selection: Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group must choose one of the net and wall sports to research and present.

  2. Research: Students should research the chosen sport using textbooks, reference books, and the internet. They should look for information about the sport's rules, history, major championships, curiosities, etc.

  3. Development of Informative Material: Based on the collected information, students must create informative material about the chosen sport. They can choose the format they prefer: poster, brochure, video, podcast, slideshow presentation, etc. The material should be attractive, colorful, and contain all the important information.

  4. Presentation of Work: Each group must present their material to the class. They should explain the basic rules of the sport, the history, the main competitions, curiosities, etc. After the presentation, other students will have the opportunity to ask questions about the sport.

  5. Practical Activity: As part of the presentation, each group must plan and carry out a practical activity of the chosen sport. They can adapt the rules to the classroom reality if necessary. The important thing is that all students have the chance to participate and have fun!

  6. Evaluation: The works will be evaluated based on the quality of the information presented, the creativity in the material development, the clarity in the presentation, the involvement of all group members in the practical activity, and participation in discussions about the other sports.

Delivery Format

The delivery format will be the informative material prepared by the group, along with a report written by the students about the research process, material development, and practical activity. The report should include the steps that were followed, the difficulties encountered and how they were overcome, and what each group member learned from the project.

Remember, the most important thing is to have fun, learn, and work as a team. Good luck, young athletes!
