Traditional Games and Toys

Contextualization

Games and playtime are fundamental elements in children's development process, enabling the acquisition of physical, cognitive, and social skills. In addition, games are tools that allow children to understand the world around them, express their emotions, develop creativity, imagination, relate to others, and get to know themselves. Play is also an important strategy for social interaction and learning rules.

Games and playtime can be classified in various ways, according to their objectives, rules, materials used, etc. Games can be educational, sports-related, board games, among others. Playtime activities are ludic activities that involve physical and mental aspects, with the main goal being entertainment and fun.

Engaging in games and playtime in the school environment is essential for the child's integral development. Through these activities, children learn about cooperation, respect for rules, tolerance for frustration, patience, among other skills that are important not only for the school environment but also for life in society.

In Brazil, we have a rich tradition of games and playtime, many of them originating from indigenous and African cultures. Knowing and valuing this cultural heritage is also a way to respect and value the cultural diversity of our country.
