Hello, young scientists! In this project, we will embark on an exciting journey to explore the fascinating world of science. Our starting point is Matter. But, what is matter? Matter is everything that surrounds us, it is what makes up the universe. It can be solid, liquid, or gaseous, and is formed by small particles called atoms.
Now, why is it important to learn about matter? Well, understanding matter is essential to comprehend how the world works. It helps us understand why water boils when heated, why ice floats in water, and why metals are good conductors of electricity. Have you ever wondered why the air has a smell, why certain foods spoil, and why objects fall to the ground? The answer to all these questions lies in matter!
Introduction
At the beginning of our study on matter, we will start with its introduction. In this stage, we will learn about the three main forms of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.
Solids have a definite shape and volume, meaning they do not change shape and do not spread. An example of a solid is a rock. On the other hand, liquids have a definite volume but do not have their own shape, they mold to the container that holds them. Water is an example of a liquid. Finally, gases do not have a definite shape or volume, they spread throughout space. The air we breathe is an example of a gas.
Additionally, we will learn about the properties of matter. Properties are characteristics that matter possesses and differentiate it from one another. For example, hardness, malleability, and density are properties of matter.

Practical Activity: "Discovering Matter"
Project Objective
This project aims to allow students to explore the concepts of solid, liquid, and gas, as well as the properties of matter, in a practical and fun way. Additionally, the project aims to encourage teamwork, creativity, communication, and time management.
Project Description
Students, working in groups of 3 to 5, will create a three-dimensional model that represents a natural landscape. The fun part? They will have to use different materials to represent the three states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas) in their model!
Necessary Materials
- Cardboard or styrofoam as the base for the model.
- Various materials to represent the elements of the landscape (e.g., small stones for mountains, cotton for clouds, modeling clay for trees, etc).
- Water, food coloring, and a container to symbolize the liquid state.
- Refrigerator or freezer to symbolize the solid state.
- A bowl of warm water and a balloon to symbolize the gaseous state.
- Blunt scissors, glue, and tape for model construction.
Step by Step

Group Formation: Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.

Model Planning: Each group should plan how their landscape will be. They can draw a sketch, write down ideas, and decide which materials they will use to represent each element.

Model Construction: Using the cardboard or styrofoam as the base, the groups start building their model, gluing and shaping the materials to represent the landscape.

Representation of the States of Matter: Now comes the most interesting part! Students must think about how to represent the three states of matter in their model. For example, they can use ice to represent the solid state (which can melt and become liquid), colored water to represent the liquid, and a balloon filled with air to represent the gas.

Model Finalization: After representing the three states of matter, the groups can finalize their model, adding more details if they wish.

Model Presentation: Finally, each group will present their model to the class. During the presentation, they must explain how they represented the three states of matter and which properties of matter are observed in each one.
