Constellations, each bringing a story or myth in every group of stars, add even more enchantment to this whole atmosphere. In science classes, we will embark on this stellar journey, where we will study the stars and constellations that fascinate us so much.

Astronomy is a branch of science that studies celestial bodies, such as stars, planets, comets, nebulas, star clusters, galaxies, and the structure of the universe itself. As one of the oldest sciences, astronomy has led humans to look to the sky to seek answers and create stories to unravel the mysteries of the stars. Constellations, an important part of the study of astronomy, are groups of stars that are visually close to each other in the night sky, and that humans, over the centuries, have connected to form patterns or figures.

Although our daily life may seem distant from the stellar universe, it is not quite so. After all, the sun, which regulates our day and provides us with the light and heat necessary for life on Earth, is a star. In addition, astronomical studies are essential for the development of technologies and for the expansion of our knowledge. For example, GPS technology, which we use in our daily lives, is a direct result of studies related to astronomy.

Delving more deeply into the study of stars and constellations makes us more connected to the universe and helps us better understand the greatness and complexity of everything that surrounds us. Learning to identify a constellation in the night sky allows us to feel part of a larger whole and helps us understand the importance of science in our lives.

Stars and Constellations: A Journey through the Cosmos

Project Objective

This project aims to encourage students to delve deeper into stars and constellations, understand what they are, how they are formed, and their characteristics. In addition, the activity proposes the identification of some famous constellations, using resources such as star maps and applications. We will also associate this practical activity with the arts discipline, creating a playful representation of the constellations.

Project Description

In this activity, students will divide into groups of 3 to 5 students. The work will be divided into three main phases: research, observation and identification, and artistic representation.

1. Research: Students should research in books and on the Internet about the main constellations, how they are formed, and their associated myths.

2. Observation and Identification: Using star maps and constellation identification applications, students should identify some constellations in the sky.

3. Artistic Representation: Each group should choose a constellation, create an artistic representation of it, and present it to the class, telling the story/myth associated with it.

Necessary Materials

• Books and internet access for research.
• Star maps, which can be printed from the internet.
• Sky observation applications (There are several free options).
• Art materials for the representation of the constellations (paper, paints, colored pens, glue, glitter, etc.)

Detailed Step-by-Step for Carrying Out the Activity

1. Research: Students, in their respective groups, should research about stars and constellations – what they are, their importance, how they are formed, the main constellations, and their associated myths. They should take notes of their findings and cite their research sources.

2. Observation and Identification: Students should use star maps and applications to identify and observe the constellations in the sky. This activity can be carried out at home, on a clear night and preferably away from strong city lights. They should take notes of their findings and experiences.

3. Artistic Representation: Each group should choose a constellation to artistically represent. They should draw the constellation, paint, add glitter, etc., and use their creativity to represent the constellation and its stars in a playful and artistic way. They should also write a brief story or myth associated with the chosen constellation.

4. Presentation: All groups should present their constellations to the class and tell the story/myth associated with it.

After completing the project, students should write a report containing the following topics:

1. Introduction: Students should contextualize the theme, its relevance and real-world application, and the project's objective.

2. Development: In this topic, students should explain the theory behind the project's central theme, detail the activity, indicate the methodology used, and present and discuss the results obtained.

3. Conclusions: Here, students should conclude the work by summarizing their main points, explaining the learnings obtained, and drawing conclusions about the project.

4. Bibliography Used: Students should indicate the sources they relied on to work on the project, such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

At the end of this report, students should attach photos of the artistic representation of the constellation they created, as well as photos of them identifying the constellations in the sky using star maps and applications. The photos are an essential part of the report and should be properly captioned.

The written document should be submitted to the teacher and will be one of the bases for project evaluation.
