Introduction
The digestion process is a true marathon that begins in the mouth, where food is chewed by the teeth and mixed with saliva. Next, the food bolus is pushed through the esophagus to the stomach, where it is mixed with gastric juices to form chyme. From the stomach, chyme moves to the small intestine, where it is absorbed into the bloodstream. In the large intestine, water is absorbed, and undigested remains form feces, which are eliminated through the anus.
In addition to understanding how the Digestive System works, it is also important to know the importance of a healthy diet. A balanced diet, with the right amount of nutrients, is essential for the proper functioning of our body. Therefore, it is essential to know the different types of food and understand how they contribute to our health.

Practical Activity: 'The Food Journey'
Project Objective
The objective of this activity is to create a three-dimensional model of the Human Digestive System, understand the digestion process and its importance for health, as well as develop socio-emotional skills such as teamwork, communication, time management, and problem-solving.
Project Description
In this project, each group of students will be responsible for simulating the 'Food Journey' through the Human Digestive System. You will create a three-dimensional model of the system, representing each of its parts, and narrate the digestion process, explaining what happens at each stage.
Required Materials
- Cardboard
- Colored paints
- Paintbrushes
- Blunt scissors
- Glue
- Crepe paper
- Colored markers
- Tape
- Double-sided tape
- Pencils and erasers
- Dictionary (for consultation of scientific terms)
Step by Step

Group Formation: The teacher will form groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group will be tasked with creating a three-dimensional model of the Human Digestive System.

Research and Planning: Groups should research the Human Digestive System, familiarizing themselves with its parts and functions. Additionally, they should plan the creation of the model, defining which materials they will use to represent each part of the system.

Model Creation: Using cardboard, students should cut and mold the different parts of the Digestive System (mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder). Each part should be painted and decorated according to its real characteristics.

Model Assembly: Once all parts are ready and dry, students should assemble the three-dimensional model, following the correct order of the Digestive System. They can use tape and/or double-sided tape to attach the parts.

Presentation Preparation: In addition to creating the model, students should also prepare a presentation. They must narrate the 'Food Journey' through the Digestive System, explaining what happens at each stage of digestion and the importance of each part of the system.
