Images and Words

Contextualization

Hello, dear students! Have you ever stopped to think about the amount of images and words that surround us daily? They are present in all parts of our lives, from the moment we wake up and look at the images on our phones, to the time we read the words of a book before going to sleep. The use of images and words is so important that we often don't even realize how they influence our thoughts, emotions, and actions.

In the world of communication, images and words are powerful tools. They help us express our ideas, feelings, and experiences. When we combine words and images, we can create even stronger and more meaningful messages. Have you ever seen a poster, a book, or even a movie that touched you in some way? Probably, the combination of images and words played an important role in that.

Introduction

In this journey of discovery, we will explore more deeply this universe of images and words. But why is this important for us, Portuguese language students? Well, in our daily lives, we need to interpret texts and communicate effectively, and to do that, understanding how images and words work together is fundamental.

Have you ever noticed how, often, a single image can say more than a thousand words? But also, have you ever realized how, in other situations, a single word can convey a very clear message? Through this project, we will learn to use these two communication tools effectively and creatively.

Furthermore, knowing and being able to use images and words together helps us develop important skills, such as text interpretation, the ability to express ourselves clearly and creatively, and the understanding of different forms of communication. So, are you ready for this adventure? Let's go!

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Images and Words: The Art of Communication"

Project Objective

This project aims to expand the knowledge and use of images and words in the communication process. The focus will be on understanding how these elements relate to each other and how they can be used creatively and effectively.

Project Description

Students, in groups of 3 to 5 participants, will create a storybook. But attention: the story must be told through a combination of images and words.

Required Materials

  1. A4 paper or cardboard
  2. Coloring pens, colored pencils, crayons, etc.
  3. Old magazines for cutting (optional)
  4. Blunt scissors
  5. White glue
  6. Tape (optional)

Step by Step

  1. Story Selection: The group must choose a story to tell. It can be a well-known story, like a fairy tale, or a story invented by the group.

  2. Creation of Pages: Each page of the book will be a scene from the story. The group must draw or cut out images (from magazines, for example) to represent each scene.

  3. Word Selection: Next to each image, the group must write words or phrases that help tell the story. The words can be character names, actions happening in the scene, characters' feelings, etc.

  4. Review and Finalization: After all pages are ready, the group should review the order of the scenes to ensure the story makes sense. Then, just put all the pages together, in the correct order, and create the book cover.

  5. Presentation: Each group must present their book to the class, telling the story they created.

Delivery Format

The storybook must be delivered to the teacher, who will evaluate the creativity in the use of images and words, the organization of the story, the presentation of the book to the class, and the group's collaboration throughout the process.

Don't forget to have fun and enjoy the creation process! I'm excited to see the amazing stories you will come up with!
