Ancient Egypt was one of the greatest and most influential civilizations of antiquity. Egyptian society optimized its natural environment along the Nile River to build a powerful and prosperous empire. The political system was theocratic, meaning the pharaoh, the ultimate leader, was seen as a living god. He had total control over the land and its resources, in addition to being the main religious figure. The development of pyramids, hieroglyphs, and other innovations by this civilization are a testament to its technological advancement.

The importance of Ancient Egypt to world history becomes evident when we think that many institutions present in our society originated in that era, such as writing, monumental architecture, the calendar, and even the idea of aesthetic beauty. Moreover, the Egyptians were pioneers in various fields of science, such as mathematics and medicine, contributing to the development of humanity.

Today, we can observe several influences from this civilization. Some architectural elements, such as obelisks and columns, are still used in modern constructions. Terms used in mathematics, such as 'angle' and 'triangle,' originated in Ancient Egypt. Even in fashion and beauty, the use of jewelry, makeup, and hairstyles is inspired by Egypt.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: 'Building Ancient Egypt: A Journey Through Time'

Project Objective:

This project aims to have students experience a journey through time and immerse themselves in Ancient Egypt in a unique way: by building a model of Egyptian society based on their learnings about the topic. Additionally, the activity seeks to stimulate creativity, group cooperation, and the ability to relate theoretical concepts to practice.

Detailed Project Description:

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will be responsible for building a model representing different aspects of Ancient Egypt: life in the Nile Valley, the construction of great monuments (such as the pyramids), agriculture, social life, contributions in fields like architecture, medicine, writing, among others.

Each group should choose an aspect they prefer and start building their model. Additionally, it will be important for each group to conduct research to deepen their knowledge about the chosen topic, aiming to present a more complete and detailed work.

1. Medium-sized cardboard box (can be a shoebox or any other available box)
2. Scissors
3. White glue
4. Various colored paints

9. A4 paper sheets
10. Pencils and erasers
11. Ruler
12. Research materials: books, internet access, etc.

Detailed Step-by-Step:

1. Defining the Theme and Planning: Each group should choose an aspect they want to represent in their model. The next step is to plan how this aspect will be represented, making a schematic drawing of how the model will be divided.

2. Research: Students should conduct in-depth research on the chosen topic to support the construction of the model and the report. At this point, students can revisit the Recommended References in the project introduction and look for new sources.

3. Building the Model: With the planning done and the research conducted, it's time to get to work! Using the available materials, students should build the model representing the chosen aspect of Ancient Egypt.

4. Creation of an Illustrated Guide: During the construction of the model, students should take photos and make notes of each step. This material will be used to create an 'Illustrated Guide' about the model construction process.

5. Presentation of the Model and Illustrated Guide: Each group will present their model and the 'Illustrated Guide' to the class. In this presentation, they should explain the chosen theme, detail the model construction process, and discuss the information learned from the research.

Project Deliverables:

The project will have two main deliverables:

1. The Model: The physical result of the project, which will be presented to the class. The model should be a representation of the chosen aspect, based on the group's research.

2. Project Report: This document should be written by all group members and will detail the entire model construction process. The report should include:

   • Introduction: In this part, the theme should be contextualized, explaining the choice of the aspect represented in the model, its relevance, and application in ancient Egyptian society.
   • Development: Here, the theory of the chosen theme should be explained, detailing the model construction process and the methodology used. The 'Illustrated Guide' should be included in this section.
   • Conclusion: Summarize the main points, express what was learned from the project, and the conclusions the group drew about the theme.
   • Bibliography: List all sources used by the group to work on the project. References are very important and demonstrate the seriousness and dedication to the work.

Students will have one week to complete the entire project, from forming groups to the final presentation.
