Mesoamerica is one of the richest and most intriguing regions of the American continent as it is home to incredible civilizations that have contributed culturally and scientifically to the history of humanity. In this project, we will explore the rich history, culture, and contributions of the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas, peoples who inhabited Mesoamerica before the arrival of the Europeans.

The Mesoamerican peoples created complex societies with well-defined governments, economies, and religious systems. They had advanced agricultural practices, built great cities with impressive architecture, and possessed mathematical and astronomical knowledge that challenges modern understanding. Learning about these ancient civilizations is a window into understanding the complex social, political, and economic systems that shaped the world as we know it.

The importance of Mesoamerican civilizations still resonates in various aspects of modern life. The cultural heritage left by these peoples in the form of traditions, practices, languages, and knowledge continues to be alive and present in contemporary societies. Their advancements in mathematics, astronomy, architecture, and agriculture, and the impact of these advancements on world history, are of great value to all of us. Furthermore, it is of utmost importance to understand the relationship of these peoples with nature and how they modified and were modified by it.

Understanding Mesoamerica is also understanding a little more about ourselves as human beings and citizens of the world, as many of the issues of these societies - such as the environment, minority rights, and city administration - are very similar to current ones. This study also allows us to recognize and value the contributions of these peoples that have been underestimated for so long.

Activity Title:

"Exploring Mesoamerica: A Look at the Mayan, Aztec, and Inca Civilizations"

Project Objective:

This project aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of Mesoamerican peoples through research, teamwork, creative activities, and presentation skills development.

Detailed Project Description:

Groups will be guided to research one of the main Mesoamerican civilizations: Mayans, Aztecs, or Incas. Each group will choose a people so that no one repeats the same. The research should focus on topics such as history, culture, economy, government system, relationship with nature, and contributions to contemporary society.

Within each chosen civilization, students will divide into different research fronts: general history, culture and traditions, scientific and technological achievements, government and economic systems, and transformations of nature and landscape. All team members are responsible for all parts of the project, but each team member will be the "specialist" in a specific topic.

In addition to research, groups will create a visual product to represent what they have learned about the chosen civilization. This visual product can be a model, a map, a poster, or any other material that creatively and informatively illustrates the findings of their research.

Required Materials:

• Research material (history books, internet access for reliable websites)
• Materials for creating the visual product (paper, paint, modeling clay, etc.)
• PC or Notebook for the report preparation

Detailed Step-by-Step:

1. Formation of groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Each group chooses one of the Mesoamerican civilizations to be the focus of their research.
3. Groups divide into different research fronts, and each student becomes a "specialist" in one of them.
4. All group members will research the chosen civilization, focusing on their specific research area.
5. After completing the research, groups will meet to discuss what they have learned and plan their visual product.
6. Groups will create their visual product using the chosen materials.
7. After completing the visual product, all group members will work together to write their report.
8. Finally, each group will present their research and visual product to the class.

Project Delivery:

At the end of the project, all groups must present two products:

1. A written report containing the following topics: Introduction (Context of the chosen civilization, study relevance, and project objective), Development (Detailed research, activity in detail, methodology used, and results obtained), and Conclusion (Summary of the main points, learnings, and conclusions about the project). Finally, it must contain the Bibliography used.

2. A visual product representing the researched civilization. This visual product must creatively and informatively illustrate what the group learned about the chosen civilization. It should be explained in the report how the product connects with the research conducted.

Students should write the report in a way that complements the visual product. The report should detail the research conducted by the students and how they used this information to create their visual product.
