However, having a solid understanding of fractions requires careful and practical study, which we plan to address with this educational project.
The key concepts covered will be the definitions of natural numbers, fractions, calculations involving fractions and natural numbers, and the division process.
Contextualization
In everyday life, fractions are present in various situations. For example, if we have ten cookies and want to divide them equally among five people, each person will receive 2/10 or 1/5 of the total cookies. In a more complex context, such as in the calculation of genetic heredity, fractions are used to calculate the probability of a certain attribute being passed from parents to children.
Furthermore, understanding how fractions work is essential for the study of other mathematical concepts, such as decimals and percentages. Therefore, mastering the subject opens doors to understanding other areas of Mathematics.

Project Objective
Acquire and deepen the understanding of fractions and natural numbers through an engaging practical activity. This activity also aims to implement teamwork skills, time management, and critical thinking.
Project Description
Students will plan and execute the preparation of a culinary recipe, using mathematics to calculate the ingredient proportions. During the process, they will apply fraction concepts to divide, multiply, and add the ingredients. At the end, they should reflect on the project execution and produce a detailed report as a group.
Required Materials
- A culinary recipe that includes fractional measurements
- Ingredients for the chosen recipe
- Kitchen accessories (bowls, spoons, scale, etc.)
- Paper and pen or word processor for report writing
- Computer for research on the topic
Activity Step by Step

Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group chooses a culinary recipe that includes fractional measurements in the ingredients.
