Data representation involves various skills, including understanding variables and their frequencies, the ability to present these variables in an intuitive format, and the skill to interpret the represented results. It allows us to summarize and understand large amounts of information effectively. A good representation can highlight trends, patterns, and relationships that may not be obvious in a table of numbers.

These skills are essential in many real-world fields. In a science laboratory, for example, scientists use graphs and tables to represent the results of their experiments. In businesses and organizations, data representations are used to understand consumer behavior, make financial decisions, and plan strategies. Practical Activity: The Mathematics of Daily Life

Project Objective

This project aims to have students research, collect, organize, interpret, and represent data about a category of their choice from daily life.

Detailed Project Description

Students should form groups of 3 to 5 people. Each group should choose a theme from daily life for which they will collect data. The themes can vary, such as: Eating Habits, Most Listened to Music, Sports Practices, Social Media Usage, Electricity Consumption, among others.

Students will be responsible for creating questionnaires, interviewing people, collecting and organizing the data. They should represent this data in graphs and tables, as well as analyze and interpret the results. The entire process should involve a total of 5 to 10 hours of work per student, and the deadline for submission will be one month.

Required Materials

  • Paper and Pen for notes
  • Computer with Internet access and spreadsheet software (such as Excel or Google Sheets)
  • Camera or cellphone to record interviews (optional)

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

  1. Theme Selection: The group should choose a theme on which they will collect data. The chosen theme should be relevant and interesting to the group.
