Contextualization

The movement of living beings is one of the most fascinating topics to explore within the Sciences. This phenomenon, which allows us to perform a variety of activities, is the result of the perfect interaction between the muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems.

The muscular system is composed of all the muscles in our body, which are responsible for the movement of limbs, facial expressions, breathing, digestion, and blood circulation. The skeletal system provides support and shape to the body, in addition to protecting internal organs and participating in the production of blood cells. Lastly, but not least, the nervous system controls and coordinates all functions of our body, including voluntary movements.

Now, imagine a tightrope walker walking on a tightrope. In order not to fall, they need to maintain balance, right? And how do they do that? Exactly, through movement! It is precisely this perfect interaction between movement and balance that we will explore in this project.

We know that movement is crucial for various areas of life, from physical activity to the performance of daily tasks. Furthermore, it has significant impacts on health and well-being, as regular exercise can prevent various diseases and improve mood and quality of life.

Let's delve a little deeper into this incredible world of movement of living beings. Get ready, because our project will be a true journey of learning and discovery!

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Equilibrist Connection

Project Objective

The objective of this activity is to create an interactive virtual presentation that demonstrates how the muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems work together to enable movement and balance in the human body, similar to that of a tightrope walker.

Project Description

Students should divide into groups of 3 to 5 members. Together, they will explore the basic mechanisms of human body movement through online and offline research, with the aim of building an interconnected understanding of the systems that make movement possible. The final result will be an interactive digital presentation, which should include illustrations, animations, texts, and even quizzes.

Required Materials

  1. Computer with internet access.
  2. Presentation software (PowerPoint, Google Slides, Prezi, etc).
  3. Books and/or online materials about the human body and its movement systems.

Step-by-Step

  1. Divide the topics among group members. Each student will be responsible for delving into research on one of the systems: muscular, skeletal, or nervous.
  2. Conduct research on the respective systems, focusing on how they interact with each other to enable movement and balance in the human body.
  3. Share and discuss the research conducted among group members.
  4. Create a storyboard for the presentation, defining the sequence of slides, text and multimedia content, and interactions.
  5. Develop the digital presentation based on the storyboard. Ensure that each slide is simple, clear, and easy to understand.
  6. Review the final presentation as a team, ensuring the accuracy and clarity of the information.

Project Deliverables

Students must deliver the interactive digital presentation and a written report following the structure below:

  1. Introduction: The student must contextualize the theme of human movement, its relevance and real-world applications, as well as the project's objective.
  2. Development: The student must explain the theory behind the muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems, detail the activity carried out, indicate the methodology used, and finally present and discuss the results obtained.
  3. Conclusions: The student must conclude the work by summarizing its main points, detailing the learnings obtained, and drawing conclusions about the project.
  4. Bibliography: The student must indicate the sources they relied on to work on the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

The written report and the digital presentation will be evaluated together taking into account the quality of the content, the structure of the systems presented, interactivity and creativity in the project's design, as well as the collaboration and teamwork demonstrated.
