Contextualization
Theoretical Introduction
The Portuguese language is rich and complex, governed by a series of grammatical rules that allow us to create a multitude of expressions, messages, and meanings. Among these elements, we have the article and the adjective, which are fundamental parts for constructing meaning in a text.
The article is a part of speech whose main function is to determine the noun, indicating whether it is being used in a specific or generic way. It can be definite (o, a, os, as) when referring to something specific, or indefinite (um, uma, uns, umas) when referring to something in a generic manner.
The adjective, in turn, is a word that expresses a characteristic of the noun, modifying it in some way. In other words, the adjective attributes a quality, characteristic, state, or condition to the being or object to which the noun refers.
Contextualization
Our way of expressing ourselves permeates our entire life: we use language to communicate at home, at school, at work, and in all our social interactions. Therefore, understanding how language elements work is essential for becoming good communicators.
The importance of articles and adjectives in constructing the meaning of a text goes beyond Portuguese classes. When we read a book, for example, it is through these elements that the author constructs the characters, scenarios, and actions. When watching a movie, dialogues come to life through the proper use of language. Even in crafting a text for a social network, the use of these elements will make all the difference for your reader to understand the message you want to convey.
Practical Activity: Linguistic Maze
Project Objective
To develop a board game known as Linguistic Maze, which will allow students to learn about the use of articles and adjectives in constructing the meaning of a text, while exercising teamwork and time management skills.
Detailed Project Description
Students should divide into groups of 3 to 5 members, and each group should build their own board game, Linguistic Maze. The game will consist of a path with several houses that contain challenges related to articles and adjectives. The houses may have questions, challenges to complete sentences, crafting sentences or paragraphs with the proper use of articles and adjectives, among others.
Required Materials
- Cardboard or cardboard
- Colored pens
- Paper
- Scissors
- Adhesive tape
- Dice
Detailed Step-by-Step
- Each group should first design the game board. The board should be a path divided into houses.
- The houses should contain challenges, questions, or activities that involve the correct use of articles and adjectives in constructing the meaning of the text.
- The questions can vary in difficulty, with harder questions worth more points.
- After building the board, the groups should create the game rules. The rules should be clear, and the groups should keep in mind that the objective of the game is for everyone to learn while having fun.
- After completing the board and the rules, the groups should play the game of other groups and vice versa.
- While playing, students should observe how they are performing and what their difficulties are.
Project Delivery
At the end of the project, each student must write a report on the experience, containing the following structure:
- Introduction: Explain the relevance of the correct use of articles and adjectives in constructing the meaning of the text in the Portuguese language. Describe the game, its rules, and how the construction and gameplay process was.
- Development: Detail how the game helped understand the use of articles and adjectives in the Portuguese language. Provide a critical analysis of the game, discuss if the rules were appropriate, if the challenges were well elaborated, how the experience of playing another group's game was, and what was learned from it. Also, discuss teamwork, task division, and the socio-emotional skills that were developed.
- Conclusions: The student should reflect on the experience as a whole, highlighting what was learned from the project and how it can be applied in everyday life.
- Bibliography: Indicate the references used in creating the project, including books, websites, and other resources.
The report must be delivered along with the game board.
