Considering this importance, this project will focus on the theme 'Punctuation and communicative intentions'.

Portuguese, like many other languages, has a complex punctuation system that serves various purposes. The proper knowledge and application of these marks not only improve students' writing skills, but also their ability to understand and interpret texts correctly. Through this project, students will have the opportunity to explore punctuation marks in depth, their functions, uses, and how they can alter the meaning of a sentence or text.

Introduction

In this project, we will dedicate ourselves to the study of punctuation in the Portuguese language, closely examining the function and significance of punctuation marks. It is not just a matter of grammar, but a communication tool that allows us to express emotions, speech intentions, and even make pauses where necessary, for a more fluid and understandable reading. Understanding punctuation is fundamental for effective written communication.

We will highlight and discuss the most commonly used punctuation marks, such as the period, comma, semicolon, colon, question mark, exclamation point, quotation marks, and dash. Each of these marks has its function and rules of use, which may vary depending on the context and the author's intention.

The ability to use punctuation correctly not only improves writing, but also reading and textual comprehension. Understanding how and why we use punctuation marks can help us better understand the author's intention and the text's meaning. This is especially important in a world where much of our communication is done in writing, whether in school assignments, emails, instant messages, or social networks.

Practical Activity: 'Punctuated Communication'

Project Objective

The main objective of this project is to deepen students' understanding of the importance and use of punctuation in written communication. Through the proposed activities, students will be able to better understand the function of punctuation marks and how they influence the meaning and interpretation of a text.

Simultaneously, the project also aims to improve students' teamwork skills and enhance their time management and problem-solving abilities.

Detailed Project Description

This project will be developed in groups of 3 to 5 students and involves carrying out a set of activities related to punctuation. Students should research the topic, create a text using different punctuation marks, interpret the effect of these marks on the text, and prepare a detailed report on the process.

The project should last about two weeks, with a workload of approximately 12 hours per student. During this time, students will be encouraged to research, discuss, analyze, and apply the concepts studied in order to deepen their understanding of punctuation.

1. Research and understanding of punctuation: Each group of students should research the different punctuation marks in Portuguese, their rules of use, and functions. Students should take notes of their findings and discuss them as a group.

2. Creative writing: After completing the research, each group should create a text that makes good use of the researched punctuation marks. The text should be original and creative, and should demonstrate the diversified use of the punctuation marks learned.

3. Analysis of the created text: After writing the text, students should analyze the use of punctuation in their own text, discussing the communicative intentions, the effects of meaning caused by punctuation, and how punctuation influences the interpretation of the text.

4. Report elaboration: Finally, students should prepare a detailed report on the project. The report should include an introduction to the topic, the project's development (activities carried out, methodology used, results obtained), conclusions, and the bibliography used.

At the end of the project, each group should deliver:

1. Creative text: An original text that demonstrates diversified and appropriate use of punctuation marks.

3. Project presentation: Each group should make a presentation to the class, presenting their text and explaining the punctuation decisions they made and how it affected the interpretation of the text.

The project is interdisciplinary, mainly involving the Portuguese discipline, but also research and writing skills that are transversal to various subjects. It is expected that students, by the end of the project, will be able to use punctuation effectively to clearly communicate their ideas in writing, and have acquired valuable teamwork, time management, and problem-solving skills.
