In this project, we will explore two fundamental concepts in the construction of a text: cohesion and coherence.

Cohesion refers to the connection, link, and relationship between the words, expressions, or sentences in the text. It is through cohesion that we can create a logical sequence in our text, allowing the reader to understand the message we want to convey. To achieve this, we use cohesion mechanisms such as synonyms, pronouns, connectors, among others.

On the other hand, coherence concerns the logical relationship between ideas, the ordering and sequence of events in a text. A coherent text makes sense to the reader, as its ideas do not contradict each other and there is a logical connection between them.

Why is it important to understand these concepts? In our daily lives, we are constantly communicating, whether through written texts, such as emails, reports, essays, or through speech, in presentations, meetings, or simply in a conversation with friends. Knowing how to create cohesive and coherent texts can help us communicate more clearly and effectively.

When constructing a text, it is important that the ideas are logically connected. This allows the message to be understood and the reader to follow the writer's reasoning. In addition, a well-written, cohesive, and coherent text provides a smooth and enjoyable reading experience, increasing the likelihood of the reader continuing to read.

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to apply the theoretical concepts of cohesion and coherence in textual construction in a practical way. Students will work in groups of 3 to 5 people to create a story in the form of a narrative text.

Detailed Project Description

The project will involve reading a base text that will be fragmented, that is, disorganized into its constituent parts - paragraphs and clauses - and the group's task will be to reorganize it, establishing the cohesion and coherence that were lost with the fragmentation.

Subsequently, the groups should create their own original text, ensuring that it is both cohesive and coherent. Both stages of the project will reinforce students' understanding of textual cohesion and coherence.

Required Materials

1. Fragmented base text provided by the teacher.
2. Sheets of paper and pens or a digital word processor for creating the original text.
3. Books, web pages, videos that students can use as references to better understand the concepts of cohesion and coherence.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

1. Study of Concepts: Initially, each group should study the concepts of cohesion and coherence more deeply. For this, they can use the resources suggested in the introduction or seek new sources of knowledge.
2. Analysis of the Fragmented Base Text: The next step is to analyze the fragmented base text. Groups should identify the main points of cohesion and coherence that are missing.
3. Reorganization of the Base Text: Based on the analysis done, the groups should reorganize the text, establishing cohesion and coherence. At this stage, it is important for the groups to discuss and decide together the best way to reorganize the text.
4. Creation of the Original Text: After reorganizing the base text, the groups should create their own story, ensuring that it is cohesive and coherent. The theme of the story is free, allowing students to be creative and explore different types of narrative.
5. Review and Editing: Finally, the groups should review and edit their text, checking for cohesion and coherence. They must ensure that all ideas are logically connected and that the text makes sense as a whole.

Project Deliverables

The deliverables of this project consist of the reorganized base text, the original text created by the group, and a report. The report should have four parts: introduction, development, conclusions, and bibliography.

2. Development: Students should explain the concepts of cohesion and coherence and their importance in textual construction. They should detail the process of reorganizing the base text and creating the original text, discussing the decisions made by the group and the challenges encountered. Finally, they should discuss the results obtained and the feedback received.
3. Conclusion: Students should reflect on what they learned from the project, the challenges faced, and the achievements obtained. They should also discuss how the concepts of cohesion and coherence can be applied in different contexts.
4. Bibliography: Students should list all sources used for studying the concepts and for the elaboration of the texts.

This report should be written in a cohesive and coherent manner. Referential cohesion resources (names and pronouns), semantic resources of synonymy, antonymy, and homonymy, and mechanisms for representing different voices (direct and indirect speech) should be used.
