Verbal, Non-Verbal, and Mixed Languages

Contextualization

We communicate in various ways, whether verbally, non-verbally, or in a mixed way. But do you know how these different types of languages work and what their importance is in our daily communication? In our project, we will explore these three types of language and understand how they help us express ourselves in varied and rich ways!

Introduction

Verbal Language is the use of words to communicate an idea, information. It is our most common form of expression. We can use verbal language both orally, when we speak, and in writing, when we write a message, a letter, a book.

On the other hand, Non-Verbal Language is the one that does not use words to communicate. It uses other elements such as gestures, facial expressions, symbols, colors, and images. Do you know when you wave to someone? Or when you are angry and make an angry face? Well, you are communicating without using words!

Now, Mixed Language is the combination of the two previous types of language. It is widely used, for example, in movies, comic books, infographics, and advertisements, where there is a combination of verbal and non-verbal elements to convey a message.

Contextualization

Understanding these different types of language is essential for us to express ourselves effectively and correctly understand the messages we receive. Imagine, for example, if when reading a comic book, you did not understand the meaning of the symbols used by the characters, or could not understand the written dialogues. You would have difficulty following the story, right?

Another example is in a job interview. You need not only to answer the questions correctly (verbal language) but also to behave appropriately, use gestures and facial expressions that demonstrate confidence and interest (non-verbal language).

Therefore, understanding verbal, non-verbal, and mixed languages is essential for effective and successful communication in today's society.
