Activity Title: Rebuilding Ancient Egypt - An Artistic Journey

Project Objective

The project aims to provide students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of ancient Egypt through the recreation of an Egyptian artwork, analyzing it from a historical, cultural, and artistic perspective.

Project Description

Each group of 3 to 5 students will choose an Egyptian artwork - it can be a sculpture, a painting, jewelry, a sarcophagus, a pyramid, or any other artistic manifestation. Their mission will be not only to reproduce this piece using the available materials but also to investigate, interpret, and report on the history, symbolism, technique, and cultural context related to the chosen piece.

Required Materials

• Internet access for research
• Paper and pens for drawing
• Cardboard, newspaper, glue, and paint for creating 3D models
• Camera or cellphone to document the process
• A4 paper and pen for writing the report

Step by Step

1. Initial Research: Each group chooses the Egyptian artwork they will recreate. The group should research the chosen piece, identifying relevant information about the historical context, purpose, technique used, and symbolism present in it.

2. Planning: The group should plan how they will recreate the artwork, taking into account the available materials and the execution time. The group should also discuss how they will divide tasks among the members.

3. Execution: The group starts recreating the artwork. During this process, the group should document the work in progress, taking photos and making notes about the challenges encountered and the solutions adopted.

4. Analysis and Reflection: Once the piece is completed, the group should reflect on the process and the final result. What have they learned? What have they discovered about ancient Egyptian art? Were they able to understand the symbolism and technique of the piece?

5. Report: Finally, the group should write a report containing the following topics:

   • Introduction: Describe the chosen piece and justify the choice. Contextualize the art in historical and cultural terms.
   • Development: Explain the process of creating the piece and the challenges faced. Discuss how the team dealt with the challenges and collaborated to complete the project. Analyze the final result in terms of technique and symbolism. Show photos of the process and the finished piece.
   • Conclusion: Reflect on the learning obtained throughout the project. What has the experience taught them about ancient Egyptian art, teamwork, and themselves?
   • Bibliography: List all sources used for research and learning about ancient Egyptian art.

Students will have one week to complete the project. The report must be submitted to the teacher at the end of the week.
