Activity Title: "The Art Journey: From Prehistory to Modernism"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to provide a practical and in-depth understanding of the evolution of art over time, through the representation and exploration of different artistic periods.

Detailed Project Description

Each group will choose three distinct artistic periods (for example, Prehistoric art, the Renaissance, and Modernism) and will create a work of art representative of each of these periods.

The artwork can take any form the group chooses (such as a drawing, a painting, a sculpture, or an art installation), as long as it aligns with the characteristics and techniques of the artistic period in question. Each artwork must be accompanied by a brief description explaining the correspondence between the artwork and the chosen period.

Required Materials

Students can use any type of art material they have access to, such as paints, colored pencils, clay, paper, fabric, etc. The use of digital technologies for creating the artworks is also allowed.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Completion

1. Form groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group will have one week to complete the project.
2. Research the history of art and select three artistic periods to explore. The suggested sources above can be a good starting point.
3. For each chosen artistic period, learn about its significant characteristics, techniques, and predominant themes.
4. Discuss as a group and decide on the art form you will use to represent each period.
5. Create an artwork for each chosen period, ensuring it represents the characteristics and techniques of that period.
6. Write a description for each artwork, explaining how it represents the chosen artistic period.
7. Prepare a presentation for the class, showcasing your artworks and explaining the creation process, the characteristics of the artistic period, and how your artwork connects to it.

Groups must write a report document, containing the following sections:

1. Introduction: In this section, contextualize the theme of art, its relevance and real-world application, in addition to the objective of this project.

2. Development: This part should contain the theory about the chosen artistic periods, a detailed description of how the artworks were created (materials used, techniques employed, etc.), the description of the artworks and how they represent the respective periods. Additionally, explain the methodology used and present and discuss the results obtained.

3. Conclusion: Summarize the main points of the project and the experience of working in a group, highlighting the learnings obtained and the conclusions drawn from the project.

4. Bibliography: List all sources used for the project.

The written document must be submitted along with the artwork and the oral presentation of the project.
