Project Objective:
The main objective of this activity is to provide students with a practical and empirical experience with the study of protozoa and algae, allowing them to observe, investigate, and analyze these organisms in a collaborative way. Throughout the project, students will deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge about protozoa and algae, exploring the diversity of these organisms, their physical and functional characteristics, the habitats in which they live, and the roles they play in nature. Detailed Project Description:
For this project, students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people and will have to prepare, observe, and analyze samples of protozoa and algae, using microscopes. In addition, the groups will have to conduct a research on some diseases caused by protozoa, and study the importance of algae in aquatic ecosystems.
Required Materials:
- Glass slides for microscopy
- Microscopes
- Water samples from different environments (river, lake, puddle, sea, aquarium, etc.)
- Pipettes
- Identification guides for protozoa and algae
- Writing materials (pencil, eraser, paper, etc.)
Detailed Step-by-Step for the Activity:

Sample preparation: Each group must collect water samples from at least two different environments. The samples must be carefully prepared on glass slides for observation under a microscope.

Sample observation: Using the microscopes, students must observe and identify the different types of protozoa and algae present in the samples.

Oral presentation: In addition to the written report, each group must prepare an oral presentation on their results, which should be presented to the class. This presentation is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their communication, argumentation, and teamwork skills.
The project has a difficult degree of difficulty and should demand more than twelve hours per student to be carried out. The project should contemplate more than four key conceptual theoretical topics and involve at least two disciplines: Biology and Chemistry.
