Ecology is a branch of biology that studies the relationships between organisms and the environment in which they live. In this context, ecological relationships stand out as one of the most relevant topics in the discipline, as they guide how species interact with each other and with the environment. In this project, our main task will be to understand, categorize, and evaluate the various types of ecological relationships, recognizing the richness that biological diversity offers.
Harmonic relationships, where there is no harm to the species involved, and disharmonic relationships, where one or more species are harmed, will be our main focus. We will also analyze intraspecific interactions, those that occur between beings of the same type (for example, among humans), and interspecific interactions (between different species).
The complexity of these ecological relationships is fascinating and allows us to reflect on the incredible variety of survival strategies that nature develops, highlighting the importance of biodiversity conservation and preservation.
In today's world, ecological relationships gain even more relevance when we think about sustainability and environmental conservation. Every interaction between species plays a crucial role in the balance of ecosystems, and human impact on these relationships is unfortunately often devastating.
From deforestation to ocean pollution, our actions have been modifying biodiversity in unprecedented ways. Understanding ecological relationships becomes more than just an academic activity: it is an essential tool to understand the effects of human activity on nature and how we can minimize them.
It is not only about preserving for future generations, but also about ensuring the sustainability of the planet for our own survival. As biologist Jonas Salk once said: 'If all the insects were to disappear from the planet, in 50 years all forms of life would disappear. If all human beings were to disappear from the face of the Earth, in 50 years all forms of life would flourish.'

Activity Title: 'Investigating Ecological Relationships - From Micro to Macro'
Project Objective:
This project aims to deepen students' knowledge about ecological relationships, both on a micro scale (within their school or community) and on a macro scale (worldwide). Students will also develop skills in group work, research, analysis, and information presentation.
Detailed Project Description:
Students will identify ecological relationships on both scales and, in doing so, understand how these relationships can affect biodiversity and ecosystem sustainability.
First, students should form groups of 3 to 5 participants and divide the activities according to each one's skills. The project should take five to ten hours per student to complete and has a one-month deadline.
Next, each group should conduct research in the vicinity of their school or in their communities (the micro scale), seeking to identify examples of harmonic and disharmonic, intraspecific and interspecific relationships. This may include visiting parks, gardens, squares, and even their own backyard.
Simultaneously, students should conduct online research on examples of harmonic and disharmonic, intraspecific and interspecific relationships on a macro scale, that is, in different parts of the world.
Required Materials:

Groups should conclude the activity with a written report, containing, but not limited to, four main topics:
- Introduction: In this section, students should contextualize the theme, explain its relevance in the real world, and the project's objective.
- Development: Here, students should explain the theory of ecological relationships, describe in detail the activities carried out, explain the methodology used, and present and discuss the results obtained.
- Conclusion: In this part, students should revisit the main points of the work, discuss the learnings obtained, and draw conclusions from the project.
- Bibliography: In this topic, students should list the sources used in the work, such as books, websites, videos, among others.
Students should make use of technical skills to identify the main types of interactions that occur between living beings and to evaluate the effects of human action on nature. Additionally, they should work on socio-emotional skills such as time management, communication, problem-solving, creative thinking, and proactivity.
These documents will be the main deliverable of the project, demonstrating the students' learning, teamwork, and dedication throughout the process.
