Activity Title: 'Building the Atomic World: An Interactive Journey through Electronic Distribution'

Project Objective

This project aims to explore the concept of electronic distribution through an interactive game based on puzzle pieces, which will allow students to learn the fundamental principles in a playful and engaging way.

Detailed Project Description

The project will be divided into two main parts. The first part will be the research and development of an educational game, which consists of creating and assembling a puzzle that represents the electronic distribution of atoms. The second part will be the writing of a detailed report.

The work will be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 students and should take at least 12 hours for each participant.

Required Materials

  • Cardboard or similar material for the puzzle base.
  • Colored paints and markers.
  • Ruler and pencil.
  • Scissors.
  • Research resources, such as books and internet access.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

  1. Students should start the project by conducting research on what electronic distribution is, its rules, and how it relates to the behavior of elements in the periodic table.
  2. After the research, groups should sketch a puzzle game that visually represents electronic distribution. The puzzle pieces should represent the electronic levels (K, L, M, N, O, P, Q) and sublevels (s, p, d, f).
  3. Each group should choose 5 elements from the periodic table and draw, on the cardboard, the electronic distribution levels and sublevels of these elements, according to the researched rules. These drawings will form the puzzle pieces.
  4. The final practical part of the project will involve assembling the puzzle and discussing electronic distribution and the behavior of the chosen elements.
  5. Students should document the entire research, construction, and discussion process in a report.

Project Deliverables

At the end of the project, groups must deliver:

  • The complete puzzle game.
  • Photos or videos documenting the game creation process.
  • A detailed project report, which should be written according to the following guidelines:
  1. Introduction: Explain the concept of electronic distribution, its relevance and real-world application, as well as the project objectives.
  2. Development: Describe the research methodology, the puzzle creation process, and how it represents the concept of electronic distribution. Discuss the results obtained.
  3. Conclusion: Evaluate what was learned during the project, the challenges encountered and how they were overcome, and how this project will help in future chemistry studies.
