When learning a new language, it is common to come across words that seem familiar, but actually have a completely different meaning in the language being learned. For example, the English word "actually" may seem similar to the Portuguese word "atualmente", but in English it means "in fact", while in Portuguese it means "currently". These are the so-called "false friends" and can be a trap for language learners.

"False friends" are particularly relevant in the study of the English language due to its global nature. Due to the pervasive influence of English, it is common to find English words that resemble words in foreign languages. Therefore, this project on "false friends" is important to enhance your English skills and improve your intercultural understanding, allowing you to communicate effectively in English in various situations.

"Exploring False Friends: A Multidisciplinary Journey"

Project Objective:

The main objective of this project is to strengthen the understanding and proper use of "false friends" in English, as well as to develop socio-emotional skills such as teamwork, time management, and communication skills. To achieve this goal, students will need to conduct extensive research, prepare a creative presentation, and write a detailed report.

Detailed Project Description:

The project will be carried out by groups of 3 to 5 students and will last approximately 3 weeks, with a workload of over 12 hours per student.

Step 1: Research and Compilation:

In this step, students must research and compile a list of at least 50 "false friends" in English and Portuguese. They should include the meaning of each word in both languages, examples of sentences using them, and the origin of the words, if possible.

Step 2: Create a "False Friends Map":

Here, students will create a "False Friends Map", an interactive visual poster that maps the researched words, examples of use, and relevant information. This map should be attractive, informative, and demonstrate understanding and proper use of "false friends".

Step 3: Presentation Preparation

In this step, students should prepare a 15-minute presentation explaining their "False Friends Map". The presentation should include an interactive segment where the audience can participate, promoting a collaborative learning environment.

Step 4: Writing the Report

Finally, students must write a detailed report of their project. The report should follow the proposed structure: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography used.
