According to this theory, the Earth's crust is divided into large plates that move over the mantle, due to the activity of the core. The boundaries where these plates meet are sites of intense geological activity, where earthquakes, volcanism, and mountain formation occur.
Another theory that contributes to our understanding is Pangaea, which suggests that today's continents were once a single supercontinent that split over time. Evidence for this theory comes from a set of geological, paleontological, and climatic data.

Understanding the Earth's structure and the formation of continents is not just an academic curiosity. It has practical implications in our daily lives, influencing everything from human occupation, the exploitation of mineral resources, to the prediction of natural disasters.

Activity Title: "A Journey Through Geological Time: The Formation of Continents"
Project Objective
To enrich students' knowledge about the formation and structure of the Earth and continents through research, cooperation, and the presentation of a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and engaging project.
Project Description
The project will be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 students and will last approximately 4 weeks, covering various activities and topics. The main objective of this project is to provide students with a deep understanding of the formation of the Earth and continents, as well as to develop their research, collaboration, communication, and time management skills.
Students will conduct in-depth research on the formation of the Earth and continents, using various sources such as books, scientific articles, reliable websites, online lectures, etc. They will explore the evolution of our planet from its formation to the present day, through the major geological eras and the main events that shaped the Earth.
Based on their research, students will create a multimedia presentation (using tools like PowerPoint, Prezi, etc) detailing the Earth's journey through geological time. The presentation should include information about the different layers of the Earth, the theory of plate tectonics, the theory of Pangaea, the formation of continents, and the major geological events of the past.
As the culmination of the project, students will build a 3D model of the Earth, showing its different layers and continents. For this, they can use recyclable materials, clay, playdough, etc. This model should be as detailed as possible and should be faithful to the information obtained in the research.

Project Step-by-Step
- Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.
- Explain the project's objective and the importance of each step.
- Students start researching the formation of the Earth and continents, using different sources.
- Based on the research, students create the multimedia presentation.
- Students begin the construction of the 3D model, representing the Earth and its layers, as well as the continents.
- At the end of the project, each group presents their research and model to the rest of the class.
- Students then, as a group, write the final project report covering introduction, development, conclusions, and bibliography.

- Conclusion: students must conclude the work by summarizing their main points, explaining the learnings obtained, and drawing conclusions about the project.
- Bibliography: in this section, students must indicate the sources they used to work on the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.
