Hello, class! In the world around us, there are many amazing things happening that we don't always notice. One of these phenomena is the weather and its different elements. Our project is about that!

The climate is composed of various elements, such as temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, and precipitation, and all of these interact with each other. The combination of these elements varies from place to place, and that's what makes a desert dry, some forests humid, and Antarctica frozen.

There are several ways to observe, measure, and predict these elements. Meteorologists use a combination of field observations, satellites, computer models, and other resources to create weather forecasts.

Contextualization

Understanding the climate and its variations is essential for many human activities. Farmers need it to know when to plant and harvest, the energy sector to predict energy demand, and all of us to know if we should take an umbrella when leaving home!

It is also a matter of global importance. Climate change, mainly caused by human activities, is altering climate patterns in a worrying way. Understanding these changes is crucial so we can mitigate their impacts and adapt to a warming world.

Practical Activity: 'Climate in Action'

Project Objective

The practical activity 'Climate in Action' aims to provide students with a real and practical experience of how the climate elements work, their interactions, and impacts on our daily lives and the planet. The project also aims to develop technical and socio-emotional skills, such as time management, communication, problem-solving, creative thinking, and proactivity.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5. Each group will be responsible for choosing a specific climate element (temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, and precipitation) and developing a small experiment related to this element.

The experiment should be simple, safe, and achievable with common materials found at home or school. It should clearly demonstrate how this element works, how it is measured, and what its implications are for the climate in general.

Students will also be tasked with researching how the chosen element is affected by climate change and what that means for the future of our planet.

Necessary Materials

The exact materials will depend on the experiment each group chooses to develop, but could include things like thermometers, compasses, water containers, balloons, paper, scissors, among others.

Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

  1. Group division and choice of the climate element to be explored.
  2. Research and planning of the experiment.
  3. Acquisition of the necessary materials.
  4. Execution of the experiment.
  5. Documentation of results and observations.
  6. Research on the influence of the chosen element on the global climate and the implications of climate change.
  7. Preparation of the project report.

Each student should dedicate two to four hours to carry out the project, and the deadline for submission will be one week.

Each group must prepare a final written report containing four main topics:

  1. Introduction: The group must explain which climate element they chose and why, its relevance and real-world application, and the project's objective.
  2. Development: Here the group must present the theory behind the chosen element, explain the activity in detail, indicate the methodology used, and finally present and discuss the results obtained.
  3. Conclusion: Summarizing their main points, students must explain the learnings obtained and the conclusions drawn from the project.
  4. Bibliography: Finally, the group must indicate the sources they relied on to work on the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

The group must present their experiment and report to the class at the end of the week, explaining what they learned and answering questions from classmates and teachers.
