The massive and accelerated use of these sources, besides depleting them, also generates a significant environmental impact, contributing to climate change.
Therefore, the search for renewable energy sources has become an urgent need. These are obtained from natural sources capable of regenerating, such as the Sun (solar energy), winds (wind energy), water (hydropower), and biomass. In addition, these energy sources cause less harm to the environment, contributing to the sustainability of our planet.
More than just an alternative, renewable energy sources are an expanding field that requires skilled professionals and an informed population to make conscious choices. Therefore, understanding this topic is not just a theoretical issue, but something that directly impacts our lives and our future.
Context
In Brazil, a large part of the energy comes from renewable sources, mainly hydropower. However, the exploitation of water for energy generation also has its impacts, such as the alteration of ecosystems and displacement of communities. Additionally, we are subject to climatic variations that can affect the availability of this resource. This became evident in recent episodes of water crises, which led to an increase in energy prices.
On the other hand, we have a great potential still underexplored for solar and wind energy generation. It is in this context that possibilities such as energy microgeneration arise, where each house or building produces its own energy, and the creation of jobs in the sector. In order to take advantage of these opportunities and face the challenges, it is necessary to understand the socio-economic and environmental implications of different energy sources.

Activity Title: Renewable Energies for the Future
Project Objective:
To put students in direct contact with the theme of renewable energies, understanding theoretical concepts, advantages, disadvantages, and practical applications of these energy sources, as well as adopting collaborative work, research, and writing practices.
Detailed Project Description:
Students, in groups of 3 to 5, should develop a detailed plan for the transition of a fictional city to the exclusive use of renewable energy sources within a period of 30 years. This plan should include an analysis of different renewable sources, taking into account the city's geographical and climatic location, economy, culture, and local demographics.
Students should create a map of the city, showing its location and geographical distribution, main characteristics, and current energy uses. Next, they should present implementation plans for different renewable energy sources, justifying the choices in terms of efficiency, feasibility, and socio-environmental impact.
In this process, students are encouraged to investigate the integration of various disciplines, such as Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Sociology.
