Globalized World

Contextualization

The globalized world is a modern phenomenon that emerged from the intensification of international relations across all spectrums of society. Globalization is a process of economic, social, cultural, and political integration that brought together peoples from different parts of the world, generating an increase in the flow of material and immaterial exchanges among nations.

The main aspects of this phenomenon include the internationalization of financial capital, the emergence of multinational corporations, technological advancement that enhanced information exchanges, cultural homogenization influenced mainly by the media, and the expansion of population flows.

In an increasingly globalized world, understanding how international relations influence our lives becomes more and more essential. Globalization has brought a series of advantages, such as broad cultural diversity, technological expansion, and access to information. However, it is also responsible for intensifying social inequalities, whether distributive (between rich and poor countries) or structural (within the same country).

I believe that a deep understanding of this global dynamic can help foster more conscious and participative citizens. Therefore, I invite you, dear students, to embark on a journey of discovery, analysis, and reflection on the globalized world.

Practical Activity: 'The Construction of the Globalized World'

Project Objective

Identify the influence of the globalization process on students' reality and the school environment, providing a local perspective on global issues.

Detailed Project Description

In this project, groups will investigate and analyze the influence of globalization on their daily lives and the school environment. The project will include data collection, research, analysis, development of a presentation, and writing a report.

The activity will be divided into four stages:

  1. Data Collection: Students must identify how globalization manifests in their daily lives (products, cultural influences, etc.) and in the school community (influences on educational programming, school activities, etc.). This stage requires the collection of empirical information and recording it for the analysis phase.

  2. Research: Based on the collected data, students conduct further research on how globalization affects the identified topic. Students should use various sources, including those provided at the beginning of the project.

  3. Analysis: Students evaluate the collected information to identify the pros and cons of globalization, based on the gathered material.

  4. Presentation and Report: Students present their findings to the class and write a detailed report of the activities.

Required Materials

  • Recording device (cell phone, tablet, or camera)
  • Internet access
  • Presentation materials (slide editing program, paper, pen, etc.)

Detailed Step-by-Step

  1. Divide students into groups of 3-5 students.
  2. They should spend a whole day documenting the ways in which globalization is visible in their daily lives (photographing products, recording music or TV programs, etc.) and in the school environment.
  3. After data collection, groups should conduct in-depth research on the impact of globalization on the identified topics.
  4. Students should then analyze the collected information and discuss the pros and cons of globalization as a group.
  5. After the discussion, each group should prepare a presentation for the class, presenting their findings and conclusions.
  6. Students should also write a report, including an introduction (project context and objective), development (details of data collection, research, and analysis), conclusion, and bibliography.

Project Deliverables

The final project delivery consists of a class presentation and a written report. The presentation should include the students' findings, analysis, and discussion. The report should include all the elements mentioned in the step-by-step, being a document that details the activities carried out. Both activities should be aligned and complement each other, providing a comprehensive view of the work done. The report is a more detailed and complete version of what was presented in class, also serving as a documentary record of the group's work.
