In this project, we will explore a practical and useful aspect of mathematics: LOCATION. This concept involves the ability to understand how to move in a space, whether it's a map on a piece of paper or the real space of our city.
To understand location, we need to study two fundamental concepts: coordinates and directions. Coordinates are points in a system that allow us to identify the exact position of something. Directions, on the other hand, help us move from one point to another. By combining these two concepts, we can move efficiently and accurately in the world around us.
Finally, location is essential for many professions: delivery drivers, pilots, navigators, engineers, and many others need to understand how to locate themselves and move efficiently. This project will not only enhance your mathematical skills but also provide you with tools for the future.
Importance of Location
In the modern world, the ability to locate and move is of paramount importance. In our daily lives, we use map apps to find our way to new places, plan trips, calculate the best route to work or school, and even to locate our lost phones.
In addition to its practical daily applications, location is also the basis for many fields of science and technology. The GPS satellites we use for navigation were made possible thanks to our understanding of the mathematics of location. Astronomers use location concepts to map the stars and other celestial bodies. Geographers use location to study the distribution of people, animals, and plants on Earth.

Project Objective
Our practical activity is structured to allow students to apply the concepts of location and directions in practice. By the end, students should be able to understand and execute the following:

Detailed Project Description
Students will work in groups of 3 to 5 people to create a board game based on maps. The goal of the game is to go from one point on the map to another, using coordinates and directions to plan the most efficient route.
Required Materials
- Cardboard or cardstock
- Pens or markers
- Ruler
Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution
- First, each group must decide on the scenario for their map. It can be a city, a fictional country, a treasure cave, or even outer space!
- Using cardboard or cardstock, students must draw the map for their game, making sure to include at least ten points of interest (monuments, shops, parks, etc).
- The points of interest should be mapped on a coordinate system that the students must create.
- Once the map is ready and the points of interest are identified with coordinates, students must create the game rules. How do players move? Turn-based? What actions can be taken during each turn?
- Once the game rules are set, students must play it several times to test and refine the rules.

Complete Board Game: The finalized board game with all its components constitutes the first project deliverable. It should include the board with clearly marked coordinates and points of interest, as well as detailed instructions on how to play.
Written Report: In addition to the board game, students must write a detailed report explaining the game creation process.
