Congruence is present in our daily lives in various ways. For example, when you look at a deck of cards and notice that all cards are equal in shape and size, you are observing a practical application of congruence. In engineering and construction, congruence is used to ensure that parts fit together or that the sides of a building are balanced.

Theoretical Introduction

The congruence of triangles is a result of Euclidean geometry and is one of the most useful tools in geometry to prove other theorems and solve problems. The congruence of triangles is based on three main criteria: side-side-side (SSS), side-angle-side (SAS), and angle-side-angle (ASA).

Project Objective

Detailed Project Description

Students will divide into groups of three to five people. Each group will be responsible for drawing and assembling a series of triangles using some common materials and then analyzing these triangles according to the congruence criteria. Students should make detailed observations, take necessary measurements, and discuss their findings within their group.

Step by Step

  1. Each group member should draw and cut out two triangles they believe to be congruent.
  2. The triangles will be exchanged within the group, with each member receiving triangles from another member. Each student must then verify if the received triangles are indeed congruent by measuring the sides and angles.
  3. Record the measurements and discuss if there were any surprises or interesting discoveries.
  4. Prepare a group report where you will discuss the congruence criteria verified in practice, with the help of the previously suggested theoretical material.
  5. The report should include photos or drawings of the triangles, tables with measurements, and the conclusion about the congruence or non-congruence of the triangles.
  6. Finally, each group must present their work to the class, highlighting their findings, challenges encountered, and how they were overcome.

Conclusion and Project Delivery

The completed work should be delivered in a report format, with the following sections:

  1. Introduction: Briefly describing the project, the relevance of triangle congruence, and the activity objectives.
  2. Development: Describing the process of triangle construction, the methodology of measurement and verification of congruence, the congruence criteria used, and the measurement results.
