Health and Sports

Introduction

Sports are an extremely efficient tool in promoting health and well-being. Regular physical activity contributes to preventing and controlling chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity, and improves quality of life, self-esteem and mood control.

Understanding the relationship between health and sports is essential to change the view that sports is just a competition, but a valuable health promotion tool. Sports contribute significantly to physical and psychological development, socialization and fun.

This relationship is increasingly being explored by science, through studies that seek to improve the performance of the human body, develop techniques that prevent injuries in athletes and better understand the nutritional needs of people who practice sports.

Contextualization

The theme 'Health and Sports' has immense relevance due to its applicability in everyday life. Sports are activities that encompass not only physical execution, but also mental and social aspects, contributing to the integral development of the individual.

With advances in medicine and technology, the connection between health and sports has gained new perspectives and created new opportunities for safe and healthy sports practice. For example, the use of wearables and applications that help to control and monitor the health of professional and amateur athletes.

Following are some resources that can be used to delve deeper into the theme:

  1. Education Portal - This website has several scientific articles on the theme that can help in the preparation of the project.
  2. Book: "Sports and Health" by Claudia Regina Cavaglieri and Estélio Henrique Martin Dantas - The book addresses the benefits of sports for physical and mental health.
  3. Documentary: "The Game Changers" (Netflix) - The documentary presents a reflection on the relationship between food and athletic performance.
  4. Workout Station - Website with content focused on sports practice and health.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Sports and Health: How Our Choice Impacts Our Body and Mind"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to investigate and analyze the impacts that different sports have on human health, both physically and mentally. To do so, each group of 3 to 5 students must choose a specific sport and conduct a detailed investigation addressing the following points:

  1. Physical benefits provided by the practice.
  2. Mental/psychological benefits provided by the practice.
  3. Possible risks and injuries associated with the practice, and how to prevent them.
  4. The influence of nutrition on performance in the sport.

Detailed Project Description

This project will involve both bibliographical research, with theoretical depth, and practice, with experiments and experiences of the concepts researched. The research should consider different sources, including scientific articles, interviews with professionals in the area (such as physical education teachers, nutritionists, sports doctors, sports psychologists, etc.) and personal experience, if any member of the group practices the chosen sport. The practice should involve some type of experimentation or experience of the concepts researched, and this can be done through simulations, practical demonstrations, experiments, among others.

Materials Needed

  1. Internet access for research.
  2. Material for notes.
  3. Camera for recording interviews or experiences (optional).
  4. Sports equipment specific to the practice of the chosen sport (optional).

Detailed Step-by-Step

  1. Students should divide into groups of 3 to 5 members.
  2. Each group should choose a sport to be the focus of their research.
  3. Students should conduct a bibliographical investigation on the physical, mental benefits and risks associated with practicing the chosen sport, as well as the influence of nutrition on performance in the sport. Note all relevant findings.
  4. Students should interview professionals in the area to obtain additional information and practical insights on the topics researched. Record the interviews, if possible, for future use.
  5. Students should plan and execute a practical activity to experience the concepts researched. This could be a simulation, practical demonstration, experiment, or any other method that helps to better understand the topics researched.

Project Deliverables

At the end of the project, each group must deliver:

  1. Written Report: This is the main product of the project. It should include an introduction (contextualization of the theme and relevance), development (theory, methodology, practical activity and results), conclusions and bibliography. This report should be 15 to 20 pages long and submitted in PDF format.
  2. Oral Presentation: An oral presentation of no more than 15 minutes on the project, focusing on the main points discovered and the practical activities carried out.
  3. Practical Material: Such as a video of the interview conducted, recording of the practical activity or other delivery that can complement the written report and oral presentation.

The written report should be written in a clear and complete way, aiming to present all the activities carried out and explaining how they relate to the objective of the project. In the development, the student should explain the theory behind the chosen sport and how this theory was explored in the research and practice. The conclusion should reiterate the main points of the project, discuss the lessons learned and the conclusions drawn.
