However, fierce competition can lead athletes to resort to prohibited substances to enhance their performance, a practice known as doping. Doping in sports is a matter of global relevance, with legal, ethical, and health implications.

Doping encompasses substances that artificially enhance performance, are potentially dangerous to health, and violate the spirit of sports. Prohibited substances range from anabolic steroids, diuretics, stimulants, to growth hormones and masking agents. The use of these substances can lead to serious health consequences for the athlete, both in the short and long term, as well as compromise the integrity of sports.

Understanding what doping is, its consequences on athletes, and why some substances are prohibited is essential to grasp the complexity and importance of this issue. Moreover, it is an opportunity to reflect on ethical issues and values that we consider important in society and sports.

Introduction

In this project, we will delve into the topic of doping in sports, investigating its history, the most commonly used substances, their effects on the human body, the ethical and legal implications of this practice, as well as the measures taken to combat doping.

Sports and competition reflect our social and cultural values. Unfortunately, doping is a reality that violates the principle of equal conditions, the essence of what we consider fair in sports. Furthermore, it involves health risks for athletes that are often not fully understood by them.

Through integration with disciplines such as biology and ethics, we will seek answers to questions such as: why do some athletes resort to doping? What are the consequences for an athlete's health and career? How are society and sports organizations combating doping?

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Unmasking Doping"

Project Objective:

This project aims to deepen students' knowledge about doping in sports, its ethical, biological, and legal implications, as well as to stimulate dialogue, collaboration, and reflection among groups.

Detailed Project Description:

Groups must conduct in-depth research on doping in sports and create a multimedia presentation covering the following topics:

1. History of doping: When and how did it arise? What were the most emblematic cases?
2. Substances used in doping and their effects: What are the most used substances? How do they act in the body? What are their short and long-term effects?
3. Ethical aspects of doping: Why is it considered unethical? How does it affect the integrity of sports?
4. Legislation and measures against doping: How does legislation address doping? What are the penalties for those caught? What are the organizations involved in doping control? What measures are taken to prevent doping?

As part of this activity, each group must conduct a class debate on doping in sports. The aim of the debate is to reflect on the complexity of the problem, analyze different perspectives, and discuss possible solutions.

Required Materials:

1. Computers with internet access for research and presentation creation.
2. Materials to conduct the presentation (PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.).
3. Suitable location for the debate.

Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

1. Group Formation: Form groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Research: Conduct in-depth research on doping in sports, covering all proposed topics. This research should be carried out over several weeks and will require more than twelve hours of work per student.
3. Presentation Development: Develop a multimedia presentation on doping and prepare to present it in class.
4. Debate Execution: Conduct a debate in the classroom on doping in sports. The teacher will moderate the debate, while other students will actively participate in the dialogue and discussion.
5. Writing the Written Document: After completing the research and debate, students must produce a report documenting their findings and reflections.

Project Deliverables:

1. Multimedia Presentation: A presentation covering all proposed topics, to be presented in the classroom.
2. Debate: Active participation in the class debate, including contributing interesting questions and reflections on the topic.
3. Final Report: A written document, prepared according to the provided guidelines, documenting the research findings, reflections from the debate, and conclusions on the topic.

This project should be completed over several weeks, and the final report should be written after the practical part is concluded. In the report, students must contextualize the topic, explain in detail the methodology used, and present and discuss the results obtained. The report should be structured following the topics: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography used.

The report must be submitted to the teacher in digital format, and each student will be responsible for a section of the report, ensuring the participation of all in the writing process.
