Contextualization

Violence is a complex, multifaceted, and historically constructed social phenomenon. It is expressed in various ways, from physical aggression to subtle manifestations that are often normalized in our society. Thus, this project will address physical, psychological, symbolic, sexual, and heritage violence, considering their manifestations and sociocultural impacts.

Physical violence is the most immediate and visible expression, characterized by bodily aggression against others. Psychological violence consists of actions or omissions that cause or aim to damage a person's self-esteem, identity, or development. Symbolic violence is the imposition of values, norms, and behaviors of a group or individual on others, through cultural domination, invisible, and often accepted as natural. Sexual violence, in turn, occurs when some type of forced sexual action occurs. Finally, patrimonial violence occurs when objects, work tools, goods, values, and rights are subtracted, destroyed, or withheld.

Understanding these different types of violence is essential for a critical reading of our society. It is present in various contexts, from the school environment to the domestic and power institutions. Understanding its forms and manifestations helps to formulate strategies to confront it and create effective public policies.

Practical Activity: "Mapping Violence: Forms and Manifestations"

Project Goal

The objective of this project is to allow students to research, analyze, and present the different forms of violence (physical, symbolic, psychological, sexual, and heritage) in a community of their choice, identifying its main victims and its social, psychological and affective causes, their meanings and political, social and cultural uses. The idea is to creatively and collaboratively present the results found, discussing and suggesting possible strategies to combat them.

Project Description

The project will be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 students and will last for one week. The activity will be divided into two main parts: research and presentation.

The first stage consists of a research on violence in the chosen community, seeking data, reports, testimonies, and other relevant information. After collecting and analyzing the data, students must prepare a presentation where they present their findings in a creative and didactic way, highlighting the cause-and-effect relationships of violence and suggesting measures to combat it.

Materials Needed

1. Internet access for research.
2. Materials for making posters, models, or digital tools for presentation.

Step by Step

1. Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Each group must choose a community (it can be a neighborhood, city, state, or country).
3. Research the different forms of violence in the chosen community.
4. Collect data, reports, testimonials, and relevant information on the subject.
5. Analyze the data and information collected, seeking to identify the relationships between variables and the impact on the community.
6. Propose solutions to mitigate violence in the community analyzed.
7. Prepare a creative and didactic presentation on the research conducted.
8. Present to the class, the teacher, and guests.

Project Deliveries

At the end of the project, the groups must deliver:

1. A presentation containing the analysis of the data and information collected, the relationships identified, and the proposed solutions.

2. A written report containing:

   • Introduction: Contextualize the chosen community, the relevance of the problem of violence in this community and the objective of this research.
   • Development: Describe the research methodology used, discuss the forms of violence identified, their impacts and the relationships found. Present and discuss the results obtained.
   • Conclusion: Review the main points of the research, explain the lessons learned, the conclusions drawn, and the proposed solutions.
   • Bibliography: List all sources used for the research.

The presentations and reports will be evaluated considering the completeness of the information, the depth of the analysis and the creativity in the presentation.
