Contextualization
The theme proposed for this project is "Man and his relationship with technology and work". From the Industrial Revolution, we have observed a rapid evolution of technology that drastically transformed work relationships.
Technology has always been present in human history, from primitive to modern societies. However, the Industrial Revolution, which took place in England in the 18th century, exponentially accelerated technological development, which became increasingly important for production processes.
The digital revolution, which took place in the 20th century, brought even more changes to the work scenario, with the introduction of computers and the internet, giving rise to new work sectors and completely transforming existing ones.
Therefore, the relationship between man, technology, and work is a topic of great relevance for today, as we are increasingly immersed in a technological and connected world.
The relationship between technology and work is complex and multifaceted. Firstly, technology brings innovations that modify production methods and, therefore, the available professions. In addition, technology has also changed the way we work by introducing new forms of communication and work organization.
The importance of the theme is manifested in various aspects of daily life. Technology has a great influence on the labor market, the economy, and our lifestyle. Furthermore, the way technology is used in work can generate social inequalities, as not everyone has access to the same opportunities.
Practical Activity: "Technology, Work, and Society"
Objective
To analyze the impact of technology on work relationships and society. Students should create a presentation on a specific aspect of the interaction between man, technology, and work, exploring the changes that this interaction has imposed on society and the labor market.
Project Description
This project should be carried out by groups of 3 to 5 students and has an estimated execution time of two to four hours for each student. In the group, students should select a modern technology (such as the internet, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, etc.) or a phenomenon associated with modern technology (such as telecommuting, work on service platforms, etc.) and investigate how this aspect of technology has impacted work relationships and society in general.
Required Materials
- Computer with internet access
- Text editing and presentation software
- Research materials: books, articles, documentaries, etc.
Step by Step
-
Students must first decide as a group which aspect of modern technology they will investigate.
-
Once the topic is chosen, students should start their research.
- What are the main characteristics of this technology or phenomenon?
- How has it been integrated into the world of work?
- What is its impact on society in general?
-
While conducting the research, students should start preparing their presentation. The presentation should not only provide information but also a discussion and critical analysis of the topic.
-
At the end of the project, the group should present the work to the class, showing their results and conclusions.
Project Deliverables
At the end of the practical activity, students must produce two artifacts:
-
A Presentation: which should contain all the information, discussions, and analyses carried out by the group. This presentation will be shared with the class and discussed in class.
-
A Report: which should follow the suggested structure of Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography.
- In the Introduction, students should contextualize the chosen technology or phenomenon and justify its relevance in the current world.
- In the Development, students should detail the research conducted, the methodology used, and present and discuss the results obtained.
- In the Conclusions, students should summarize the main points, explain the learnings obtained, and the conclusions drawn from the project.
- The Bibliography should list all sources of consultation and references used in the work.
Through this project, students will have the opportunity to practice and develop technical skills such as critical analysis of the transformations in the labor market resulting from technology, as well as socio-emotional skills such as time management, communication, and problem-solving.
