Contextualization

Violence is a persistent and omnipresent reality in contemporary society. It manifests itself in various forms and has profound and lasting impacts on individuals and the community as a whole.

Violence can take many forms, from physical aggression to psychological abuse, and each of them has its own characteristics, causes, and consequences. It is vital that we, as informed and active citizens, strive to understand these different manifestations of violence so that we can address them efficiently and fairly.

It is important to highlight that violence is not an isolated phenomenon, but is embedded in social, cultural, and political contexts. Thus, social structures and power relations play a crucial role in determining who is most likely to be affected by violence, how it is perceived, and how it is addressed.

Introduction

This project aims to promote an in-depth analysis of violence in its various forms and manifestations. Throughout this work, key concepts such as physical violence, psychological violence, symbolic violence, among others, their causes, and impacts on society will be explored.

Students will have the opportunity to develop a solid understanding of these concepts through group activities. The work will involve research, classroom discussions, and the creation of a final project applied to the students' reality.

The disciplines involved in this project will be Sociology, focusing on the social and cultural aspects of forms of violence, and Psychology, to analyze the emotional and behavioral aspects in the context of violence.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Unveiling Violence: Causes, Manifestations, and Impacts"

Project Objective

The main objective of this activity is to deepen students' understanding of the various forms of violence, understanding their causes, manifestations, and impacts on society. In addition, efforts will be made to develop possible solutions to reduce and prevent violence.

Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5, and each group will be assigned to investigate and present a specific type of violence. The project will be divided into two main stages: research and presentation.

During the research phase, students will seek relevant information about the type of violence assigned to them, focusing on the sociological and psychological aspects of violence. They will investigate issues such as who the main victims and perpetrators are, what the underlying causes are, how this form of violence is socially perceived, what its impacts are, and how it can be prevented. Students should use a variety of resources, including books, scientific articles, news, videos, podcasts, etc.

In the second stage, students will present their findings to the class. This presentation can take any form that students choose (for example, a PowerPoint presentation, a video, a play, a podcast, etc.). However, the presentation must include a section where the class has the opportunity to discuss the group's findings and ask questions.

Necessary Materials

The materials needed for this project include access to research resources (e.g., books, internet access to search for articles, videos, and podcasts) and materials for the presentation (e.g., software for PowerPoint presentations, recording equipment for videos or podcasts, props for plays, etc).

Schedule

This project should be developed over a month. During the first half, students will conduct their research and compile their information. In the second half, they will prepare and carry out their presentations.

Project Delivery

The project will be completed by providing a written report. This document should contain four parts:

1. Introduction: students must contextualize the form of violence they studied, explain why it is relevant, and describe the purpose of their project.
2. Development: in this section, students must explain in detail the theoretical concepts they explored, describe the research methodology they used, present their findings, and discuss the results. They should pay special attention to linking the sociological and psychological aspects of violence.
3. Conclusions: this section should summarize the main points of the research, discuss what students have learned, and what were the main conclusions drawn from the project.
4. Bibliography: students must list all the references they used in their research.

The report must be delivered a week after the presentation to allow students to include any feedback or insights they received during the classroom discussion.
