Contextualization

Our Portuguese language, rich and dynamic, brings with it rules and structures that require attention and understanding to be used correctly. Among these, the use of accents stands out, elements that not only define pronunciation, but can also completely change the meaning of a word. In this project, our eyes will be turned to the tonic accent and the graphic accent, essential pieces in the construction of our speeches.

In the universe of linguistics, the tonic accent is responsible for the greater intensity that a syllable receives in the pronunciation of a word while the graphic accent is the visual representation (acute, grave, circumflex) of this tonality in writing. The difference between these accents may seem subtle, but both have relevant and specific functions in our speeches.

The importance of this theme intensifies when we think about how language is used in the most diverse situations of our daily lives. Whether in casual conversations, in writing formal texts, or in reading a book, the rules of the Portuguese language are always present. Therefore, mastering them means not only getting high grades on the tests, but also communicating efficiently and accurately.

This project goes beyond our Portuguese class. It will also involve the discipline of Arts, as one of the main activities will be the creation of a book illustrated by the groups, where they will creatively apply the concepts learned about the tonic accent and the graphic accent.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Accentuated Adventure

Project Objective:

• Understand and differentiate the concepts of tonic and graphic accent.
• Apply the rules of accentuation in practical situations.
• Develop teamwork and creativity skills in building an illustrated story.

Detailed Description of the Project:

In this project, students will work in groups of 3 to 5 people to create an illustrated story that demonstrates the use and importance of accents in the Portuguese language. The story should contain real examples of the use of tonic and graphic accent, highlighting the difference between them and the importance in understanding a text.

While the plot of the story is free for the group to choose, care should be taken to highlight the relevance of accents. Characters can be created who "gain powers" when pronouncing words with correct accentuation, or a world where the lack of accentuation causes chaos, for example.

Materials Needed:

• A4 white sheets for drawing/illustration
• Colored pens, pencils, crayons, etc.
• Text editing software (Google Docs, Word, etc.)
• Access to the internet for research

Step-by-Step Activity:

1. Group Formation: Students must organize themselves into groups of 3 to 5 people.

2. Brainstorming: Each group should hold a brainstorming session to decide the plot of the story, remembering that it should demonstrate the use and relevance of graphic and tonic accents.

3. Research: The groups should research and study the tonic and graphic accent to ensure that the application in the story is correct.

4. Writing the Story: The groups must write the story, making sure to include examples of the use of both accents.

5. Illustrations: Each group should make drawings that correlate to their story, helping to understand the plot and the application of accents.

6. Final Editing: The groups must review and finalize their stories, ensuring that the concepts of accentuation have been correctly applied and explained in the plot.

Project Deliverables:

1. Illustrated Story: Each group must deliver their illustrated story, either printed or in digital format.

2. Report: In addition to the story, students need to submit a written report with the following sections:

• Introduction: Students should contextualize the theme, its relevance and application in the real world as well as the objective of this project.

• Development: Students should explain the theory behind the central theme of the project, explain the activity in detail, indicate the methodology used and, finally, present and discuss the results obtained.

• Conclusion: Students should conclude the work by summarizing their main points, explaining the lessons learned and the conclusions drawn about the project.

• Bibliography: Students should indicate the sources they used to work on the project, such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

The report should be done in a text editing software and aims to show the learnings of the group during the project, in addition to complementing the illustrated story with theoretical explanations of accentuation and examples present in the plot.
