Text genres are a vital part of our everyday lives, whether in literature, interpersonal communication or in digital spaces. Each text genre has its own particular characteristics and serves a specific purpose in communication. Text genres can be letters, e-mails, critical reviews, news articles, poems, etc. Each of these genres has a specific structure and serves a particular communicative purpose.

The ability to recognize and use the different text genres appropriately is fundamental for understanding, producing and interpreting texts in our daily lives. It is important not only for academic success, but also for participation in the various discursive spaces of our society.

In today's world, dominated by information and communication, it is essential to know the text genres. We are all constantly faced with a variety of text genres in different media, from books and newspapers to e-mails and text messages. In addition, many professions require the ability to produce and understand a variety of text genres. Therefore, understanding text genres is an essential skill in the 21st century.

Practical Activity: "Exploring Text Genres"

Project Objective

The project aims to engage students in the practice of analyzing and producing different text genres by creating a digital magazine that includes some of these genres.

Project Description

The students, divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, will be responsible for creating a digital magazine, selecting and producing texts of three different genres: news, poem and critical review. In addition, they will conduct a small theoretical study of each chosen genre, explaining its main characteristics and identifying them in the texts produced.

Materials Needed

• Books, articles, websites and other resources for research on text genres.
• Computers with Internet access for the production of the digital magazine.

Project Step by Step

1. Theoretical Research: Students must initially carry out a theoretical research on the text genres selected for the digital magazine, seeking to understand their characteristics, purposes and structures.
2. Text Production: Then, each student in the group must produce a text for each genre studied, totaling three texts per student. The best texts of each group will be selected to compose the magazine.
3. Creating the Digital Magazine: Using digital tools (this could be a PowerPoint presentation, Google Slides, Prezi, or a platform specific to digital magazines), students will put together their magazine, including the selected texts and a theoretical explanation of each genre employed.
4. Revision and Editing: All the members of the group must participate in the process of revising and editing the produced texts, ensuring that they comply with the characteristics of the proposed text genre.

Project Deliverables

After completing the practical part of the project, each group must submit two final products:

1. Digital Magazine: The digital magazine created by the group, containing the texts produced by the students and the theoretical explanations about the text genres used.
2. Project Report: A document written in a report format, following the structure: Introduction (contextualization of the theme and objective of the project), Development (explanation of the magazine production process, with emphasis on the text genres studied and produced, the methodology used and the main difficulties and discoveries during the activity), Conclusions (resumption of the main points and of the lessons learned) and Bibliography (sources used to assist in the project).

The production of the report is an opportunity for students to highlight not only the theory studied, but also their practical experiences in developing the text genres. The reports will be evaluated based on criteria such as clarity, coherence, adherence to the theme, correct application and explanation of the text genres and critical reflection on the experience.

Conclusion and Correction Criteria

At the end of the activities, students are expected to have developed technical skills for the analysis and production of texts in different genres. In addition, carrying out the group project should foster the development of socio-emotional skills, such as time management, communication, problem solving and proactivity.

Projects will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

• Content: Appropriateness of the texts to the proposed genres; clarity, coherence and originality of the texts produced; quality of the theoretical explanations on the text genres.
• Digital Magazine Presentation: Image quality, layout, organization and aesthetics of the digital magazine.
• Project Report: Quality of the project explanation, reflections presented, organization of the report and adherence to the proposed structure (Introduction, Development, Conclusions and Bibliography).
• Participation and Cooperation in the Group: Active participation in all stages of the project, cooperation with colleagues and contribution to the group work.
