Literature as social denunciation serves as a cry launched by society to raise awareness, inform, and alert about the reality of injustices, exploitations, inequalities, and oppressions present in its time. Authors use their words to shape thoughts, thus influencing public opinion and promoting real changes in society.

Introduction

Throughout history, authors from different contexts and periods have used literature as a form of social denunciation. Writers like Charles Dickens and Émile Zola, for example, portrayed through their works the harsh realities experienced by workers during the Industrial Revolution. In Brazil, authors like Jorge Amado and Graciliano Ramos depicted in their works the reality of the life of the northeastern people, their struggles, and adversities.

Writers use their characters, stories, and settings to reflect and denounce social problems. By reading these works, we can observe the problems of our own time through a new lens, provoking reflection and awareness.

Activity Title: "Literary Echoes: Social Denunciation Through Literature"

Project Objective:

Students will investigate how different authors from different periods used literature as a means of social denunciation. In addition, students should create a collective literary work, using language and narrative as tools to denounce a current social issue.

Detailed Project Description:

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people, and each group will study a literary work chosen together, whose theme is social denunciation.

Students should engage in an in-depth analysis of the work, investigating the social and historical context of the time it was written, the author, the characters, and the plot. They should identify how these elements intertwine to form a social denunciation.

In addition, each group should create their own collective literary work, whose theme is a current social issue. The work can be a short story, a play, a novella, or a poem.

Required Materials:

• Books: the selected literary works for study.
• Notebooks and pens for notes.
• Access to the internet for additional research.
• Access to text editing software (for the construction of the collective literary work).

1. Group Formation: Students should divide into groups of 3 to 5 people.
2. Selection of Literary Work: Each group should choose a literary work whose theme is social denunciation.
3. Study of the Work: Students should read the chosen work and make notes on the points of social denunciation they identify.
4. Research on the historical and social context of the time the work was written and about the author.
5. Analysis of the Work: Joint discussion on the identified points of social denunciation, on the historical context, and on the author.
6. Creation of a Collective Literary Work: The group should choose a current social issue and develop a literary work (short story, play, novella, or poem) that denounces this issue.
7. Preparation of the Final Report: the report should follow the requested structure (Introduction, Development, Conclusion, and Bibliography) and reflect the entire research, analysis, and creation process experienced by the group.
