Spanish, like any other language, has peculiarities in the pronunciation and writing of letters and combinations of them. Understanding these characteristics is essential for effective communication in the language. The Spanish alphabet consists of 27 letters, with 22 of them being similar to Portuguese. The letters 'ch', 'll', 'ñ', 'rr', and 'w' are particularities of Spanish and have their own sounds.

Introduction

The study of sounds, or phonetics, of a language is an important tool in language learning and in assessing linguistic competence. The phonetic alphabet provides a set of symbols to represent all the sounds of all human languages. In this project, students will acquire useful skills to learn the correct pronunciation of each letter of the Spanish alphabet, as well as to understand the phonetic changes of these letters in different words and contexts.

Real Context

The ability to communicate in a foreign language is of increasing importance in the globalized world, whether for travel, work, or studies. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, after Mandarin, being the native language of 21 countries. Furthermore, Brazil is surrounded by Hispanic countries, which makes learning Spanish even more relevant.

In the professional field, knowing Spanish opens doors to job opportunities and business, especially in multinational companies. In academia, having Spanish on the resume allows access to a vast body of literature and research produced in Hispanic countries.

Activity Title: 'Spanish Alphabet in Action: Creating Audiobook and Video Tutorial'

Project Objective

The purpose of this project is to lead students to develop a deep understanding of the Spanish alphabet, its sounds, and its peculiarities. We will combine Spanish and arts disciplines in this interdisciplinary project, in which students will produce an audiobook of a Hispanic tale or fable, as well as a video tutorial explaining the phonetic difficulties encountered during the audiobook production. The group size for this project should be 3 to 5 students, and the total duration of the work is estimated to be over twelve hours per student.

Detailed Project Description

Each group of students will choose a Hispanic tale or fable to be transformed into an audiobook. The story must be at least 10 minutes long when read aloud and should contain words and letter combinations that represent the peculiarities of the Spanish alphabet and phonetics. The audiobook should be recorded with clear and expressive voice, so that the listener can enjoy the story and at the same time grasp the nuances of Spanish.

In addition, each group will produce a video tutorial explaining the correct pronunciation of the Spanish alphabet and the difficulties encountered during the audiobook recording. The video tutorial should contain clear examples of each letter of the alphabet, as well as the most challenging combinations. Students should discuss the impact of these combinations on the pronunciation of words and present strategies to overcome these challenges.

Step-by-Step

1. Formation of groups and choice of tale or fable to be adapted into an audiobook.
2. Reading and analysis of the tale, identifying the most challenging words and letters in terms of pronunciation.
3. Research on the correct pronunciation of the Spanish alphabet and the letter combinations identified in the tale.
4. Recording of the audiobook, paying attention to the correct pronunciation of letters and words. Each group member should participate in the reading.
5. Editing of the audiobook, adding sound effects and adjusting volume levels.
6. Recording of the video tutorial, explaining the pronunciation of the Spanish alphabet and discussing the difficulties encountered during the audiobook recording.
7. Editing of the video tutorial, adding subtitles, graphics, and visual examples to aid in understanding the content.

Project Deliverables

Groups must deliver:

1. The Audiobook with tale or fable read in Spanish.
2. The video tutorial on the pronunciation of the Spanish alphabet.
3. Written report containing Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography.

In the report, in the Introduction, students should contextualize the theme, the relevance of the work, its objective, and real-world application. In Development, they should explain the theory behind the Spanish alphabet and phonetics, describe in detail the activities carried out, the methodology adopted, and discuss the challenges encountered during the audiobook and video tutorial recording.

In the Conclusion, students should summarize the main points of the work, the lessons learned, and the conclusions about the project. Finally, in the Bibliography, they should indicate all the research sources used, whether in the form of books, web pages, videos, etc.
