Syllabic Division

Contextualization

Syllabic division is an essential component of the Portuguese language. It is a technique used to divide words into syllables, phonetic units that form sounds and make up words. This technique is often used in writing and reading, both in poetry and prose texts, and is a useful tool for understanding how words are formed and pronounced.

It is particularly useful when writing texts, where adjustments are needed to maintain proper formatting and aesthetics, such as moving words to the next line at the end of a paragraph. Not knowing how to perform correct syllabic division can lead to writing and pronunciation errors, and can be an obstacle to reading fluency.

Project Introduction

In this project, we will deepen our knowledge of syllabic division. We will learn in detail about the general principles of syllabic division, its rules, and its exceptions. Together, we will explore practical examples and apply the concepts learned in real and practical activities.

This project is an opportunity for you not only to understand the basic concepts of syllabic division but also to learn how to work in a team, debate ideas, and develop socio-emotional skills such as time management, communication, and creative thinking. The goal of this project is to provide you with a complete and in-depth learning of the subject, allowing you to apply this knowledge appropriately in the real world.

Practical Activity: "Syllabic Division in Game"

Project Objective

Through the creation of an educational game, students should apply and deepen their knowledge of syllabic division, in order to facilitate the understanding of this topic and its practical application in everyday life.

Detailed Project Description

Each group will be responsible for creating an original game that enhances players' practical syllabic division skills. The game can be made in any style (board game, cards, digital, etc.), as long as it is interactive and highlights the need for correct syllabic division for progress or victory in the game.

Additionally, each group must produce a detailed instruction manual for the game, presenting the rules, objectives, and operation of the game. This manual should be clear, coherent, and free of grammatical errors.

Required Materials

  • Various materials for game construction (cardboard, cardstock, pens, ruler, scissors, etc.).
  • Internet access for research.
  • Text and image editing programs for manual creation (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Adobe Photoshop, etc.).

Detailed Step-by-Step

  1. Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.
  2. Each group should conduct in-depth research on syllabic division (source suggestions have been provided but are not limited to these).
  3. Students should discuss and plan the concept of their game, keeping in mind how syllabic division will be integrated into the game mechanics.
  4. After the initial discussion, students should start developing the game and the instruction manual.
  5. During the creation process, students should constantly verify the information to ensure the accuracy of syllabic division in the game.
  6. Students should test the game several times to ensure it functions correctly and is both fun and educational.
  7. After completing the game and manual, each group will present their project to the class, and everyone will have the opportunity to play the games from other groups, allowing for an interactive review of the content.

Project Deliverables

  • Educational game created, with all necessary pieces.
  • Game instruction manual, written clearly and without grammatical errors.
  • Written report containing:
    • Introduction: contextualization of the importance of syllabic division and project objective.
    • Development: theory on syllabic division; detailed description of the game created, including its rules and how syllabic division is applied; methodology used in game creation; analysis of results obtained (how the game aided in learning the topic).
    • Conclusion: main learnings and conclusions drawn from the project, as well as the application of syllabic division in the real world.
    • Bibliography: sources students relied on for game creation and report writing.
  • Classroom activity where games from other groups will be tested. This moment will not only reinforce knowledge of the topic but also allow students to learn how to give and receive feedback.
