Human Body: Lymphatic System

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Exploring the Lymphatic System"

Project Objective

This project aims to provide students with a deep and applied understanding of the lymphatic system in a multidisciplinary context. This will be achieved through research and analysis of how basic infrastructure services can influence the functioning of the lymphatic system and, therefore, the health of the local community.

Project Description

Groups will receive a scenario of a community with socio-economic, geographical, and infrastructure characteristics defined by the teacher. They should research and analyze how these characteristics can impact the lymphatic system of individuals living in this community.

Necessary Materials

  • Computers with internet access for research
  • Notebooks or paper for notes
  • Presentation materials (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.)

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

  1. The teacher must pre-define characteristics of a community including, but not limited to, the level of sanitation, access to electricity, transportation, vaccination coverage, nutrition, etc.

  2. Based on this data, students in groups should first review the recommended resources and acquire a basic understanding of the role and functioning of the lymphatic system.

  3. Next, students should conduct additional research to understand how the factors of the individual scenario can impact the lymphatic system.

  4. Each group must create a presentation detailing their findings. This should include a section explaining the lymphatic system, a section detailing the assigned scenario and its relationship with the lymphatic system. Then, the group should conduct an in-depth analysis of the influence of the scenario factors on the lymphatic system.

  5. Groups should work together to create an action plan that could improve the adverse situations found, focusing on maintaining or improving the functioning of the lymphatic system in the community.

Project Deliverables

Each group must deliver the following:

  1. Written Report: This should follow the proposed structure with Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography. It should discuss key concepts of the lymphatic system, a detailed description of the community characteristics, the analyses performed, and the conclusions drawn. The report should be written clearly and organized, demonstrating the correct use of the Portuguese language.

  2. Presentation: Each group must present their findings to the class. This presentation should summarize the key findings and conclusions of the Written Report. Presentations should demonstrate communication and teamwork skills.

The deliverables should demonstrate a complete understanding of the lymphatic system, how it is affected by external factors, and how to improve these conditions.
