The skeletal system is not static. It is dynamic and is constantly renewing and adapting. This is possible thanks to bone metabolism, which is essential for maintaining the density and strength of our bones. Understanding this system is crucial to understanding how our body works, how it stands and moves.

When we talk about the skeletal system, we cannot forget about the joints, which are the connection between two or more bones and allow for the mobility of the human body. Joints, like bones, need care. A healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity are essential to keep them healthy.

This leads us to contextualize the importance of studying the skeletal system. This understanding can give us insights into how we live and interact with the world around us. Knowing how our skeletal system works can help us understand why certain movements are possible, how to prevent injuries and how to maintain the health of our bones throughout life.

In addition, the skeletal system has undeniable importance for various professions. Healthcare professionals, fitness trainers, athletes, biologists, physical therapists and many other professionals rely on knowledge of the skeletal system to perform their jobs in the best possible way.

Practical Activity: The Skeleton Game

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to create a "Skeleton Game" where students will have the opportunity to explore and learn about the human skeletal system in a playful and collaborative way.

Detailed project description

Students, in groups of 3 to 5 participants, will create a game board themed on the human skeletal system. Each part of the board should represent a part of the skeletal system (bones, joints, ligaments, cartilage) and each group should develop question and answer cards that address the concepts and functions of these parts of the skeletal system. The game will be played between the groups, promoting interaction and collaboration between the students.

Required materials

  1. Cardboard or cardboard to create the board.
  2. Colored markers or paints.
  3. Sticky notes or flashcards for question and answer cards.
  4. Dice.

Detailed step-by-step for carrying out the activity

  1. Divide into groups of 3 to 5 students.
  2. Each group should do detailed research on the skeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments and cartilage. Use the suggested bibliography and other sources they find relevant.
  3. Based on the research, each group should create a game board where the course represents the different parts of the skeletal system. Be creative in representing the body parts and functions of bones, joints, ligaments and cartilage.
  4. After creating the board, each group should develop questions and answers about the skeletal system. The questions will be used during the game and players must answer the question correctly in order to advance on the board. Questions can be about anatomy, functions, diseases, curiosities, etc.
  5. At the end of the game creation, each group will have the opportunity to present their game to the class, explaining the rules and the questions developed. Then, the games will be used between the groups for a round of games.
  6. The project must be completed within one week.

A After completing the practical part (creating and playing the games), students should write a report in the form of a written document containing the following topics:

  1. Introduction: Contextualize the theme, its relevance and application in the real world as well as the objective of this project. Describe the game created by the group and how it relates to the study of the skeletal system.

  2. Development: Describe the research carried out and the knowledge acquired about the skeletal system. Detail the creation of the game, explaining the representation of the skeletal system on the board and the questions developed. Comment on the methodology used to create the game and to play the games between the groups. Discuss the results obtained during the games: which questions were the most difficult? What knowledge was most applied? Were there any surprises?

  3. Conclusion: Reflect on the learning gained from the project. What lessons did the group learn from the project? How can the knowledge acquired be applied in everyday life or in future studies/professions? What was the experience of working in a group to create the game?

  4. Bibliography: List the sources used for the research and for the development of the game.

Remembering that this project aims not only to assess students' knowledge of the skeletal system, but also their teamwork skills, time management, problem solving and creative thinking.
