There are two main types of metabolism: catabolism and anabolism. Catabolism is the process of breaking down complex molecules into simpler ones, releasing energy. Anabolism is the building process, where complex molecules are produced from simpler ones, consuming energy.
Catabolic metabolism can occur in two ways: aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic metabolism is a process that occurs in the presence of oxygen and is responsible for producing large amounts of energy. Anaerobic metabolism, on the other hand, occurs in the absence of oxygen and produces energy in small amounts, but more quickly.

Anaerobic metabolism, as mentioned earlier, provides fast and small amounts of energy, being especially important for high intensity and short duration physical activities.
Understanding these processes allows us to better understand metabolic diseases, such as diabetes and obesity, as well as to develop strategies for their prevention and treatment. In addition, these processes are fundamental for the development of biofuels and for the production of food and medicine through genetically modified organisms.

Students, in groups of 3 to 5, should research and create a slideshow presentation on catabolic metabolism together, addressing the two types: aerobic and anaerobic. The presentation should be structured, didactic and involve the use of creativity. In addition, the group will conduct a practical experiment to demonstrate the effect of both types of metabolism on physical activities.

- Internet access for research and use of presentation software (Google Slides, Microsoft PowerPoint, etc.)
- Stopwatch
- Material for documentation (paper, pen, computer for typing the report)
- Adequate space for physical activities (running, for example).

Research: Students must research catabolic metabolism together, focusing on the differences between aerobic and anaerobic. Reliable sources must be used and properly cited on the bibliography slide.

Creating the Presentation: Based on the research, students should create a slide presentation that tells the "story" of catabolic metabolism: what it is, how it works, what the differences are between aerobic and anaerobic and the importance of these processes for the human body. Practical Experiment: To demonstrate the effects of anaerobic and aerobic metabolism, students will perform a physical activity, such as a 100-meter run and a 1-kilometer walk, and analyze the difference between the two. It is important that all members of the group participate.
