Understanding it is essential to understanding the current global dynamics, its tensions and conflicts. Decolonization was a process by which African and Asian nations achieved their independence after centuries of European domination.

The decolonization movement that occurred after World War II was marked by intense conflicts and struggles for self-determination. These movements reflect the aspiration of colonized populations to have their nations recognized, to develop their own cultures and economies, free from colonial rule. The consequences of these movements are still felt today, intensely, changing the international relations, political geography, economy and culture of these places.

Decolonization did not occur in a homogeneous way, each country experienced this process in a unique way, which makes this study so rich. It is in this scenario that we are going to delve into, studying the different decolonizations, their leaders, their struggles and their consequences. We will observe how the new African and Asian nations were formed and how these experiences are reflected in the current world.

Introduction

Let's explore the process of decolonization and the various nuances that surround this theme. To this end, we will divide the class into groups and each one will be responsible for researching a specific country or region. The objective is for each group to be able to present an overview of how decolonization took place in the chosen place.

To deepen the knowledge on the subject and also to guide the research, we provide the following materials:

• Movie: "Fighting for a Dream" (2006), which portrays the struggle for independence of South Africa and apartheid.
• Book: "The Decolonization Process of Asia and Africa" (Editora Moderna)
• Articles: "Decolonization of Asia and Africa" available on the Brasilescola portal and "Decolonization of Africa: a violent and complex process" available on the Mundo Educação portal.
• Documentaries: "The Fall of the British Empire" and "History of Decolonization", available on YouTube.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Decolonization in Focus"

Project Objectives:

Students, through in-depth exploration of different countries, should be able to:

1. Understand the different forms and contexts in which decolonization occurred.
2. Analyze the social, economic and cultural impacts of decolonization.
3. Present their findings in a clear, objective and creative way.

Project Description:

Groups will be asked to research the decolonization process of a specific country in Africa or Asia. After gathering the information, the groups should prepare to share their findings creatively, creating a multimedia presentation containing information such as:

• Historical context
• Leaders involved
• Strategies used
• Challenges encountered
• Impact of decolonization on the country and the world

Required Materials:

1. Computer with Internet access for research.
2. Presentation software (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.).
3. Access to virtual or physical libraries to deepen the topic.

Step by step for executing the project:

1. Group Formation: Organize yourselves into groups of 3 to 5 students.

2. Country Distribution: Each group will receive a specific country to research. Ensure that each group has a different country to avoid repetition.

3. Research: Use the materials provided, as well as other reliable sources, to research the decolonization process of the chosen country. Focus on understanding the social, economic and cultural spheres involved.

4. Organization of information: Divide the responsibilities of the group in the preparation of the presentation. Each member of the group should be able to talk about one part of the project.

5. Presentation Creation: Use a platform of the group's choice to create the presentation. It can be a slideshow, a video, a podcast, etc. The important thing is that the presentation is informative and creative.

6. Rehearsal: Before presenting to the class, rehearse the presentation as a group to ensure that everyone is comfortable with the content.

Project Deliverables:

Students must submit, at the end of the week, the multimedia presentation they created, as well as a written report containing the following topics:

1. Introduction: Provide context for the chosen country and explain the relevance of the research conducted.

2. Development: Explain in detail the decolonization process of the chosen country, outlining the historical context, the main actors involved, the strategies used, the challenges faced and the impact of that process both nationally and globally. Do not forget to include the sources used for the research.

3. Conclusion: Summarize the main points and explain the lessons learned through the project, as well as what you have concluded about the decolonization process as a whole.

4. Bibliography: List all sources consulted during the research. Make sure they are all correctly cited.

Remember: the presentation and report are complementary. The presentation should be a visual and summarized version of what was written in the report, and the report should provide all the details and in-depth analysis on the topic.
