However, it is important to emphasize that the process of domination was accompanied by marks of violence, exploitation, and subjugation of local peoples.

Understanding Imperialism and, more specifically, the impact of the process on Africa, is essential to comprehend the current configuration of the continent. The consequences of imperialism were profound and significantly influenced the formation of borders, political and economic structures, as well as left cultural and social marks in African countries.

Furthermore, the discussion about Imperialism leads us to important reflections on issues such as racism, xenophobia, and global inequalities, since the imperialist logic was based on principles of racial and cultural superiority. Therefore, studying African Imperialism is also an opportunity to debate and reflect on contemporary ethical, social, and political issues.

Practical Activity

Journey through Africa: Conquest and Resistance

Project Objective

The objective of this activity is to encourage students to research and explore more deeply the theme of African Imperialism, understanding the mechanisms of domination, resistance, and the consequences left on the continent to this day.

Activity Description

Students should divide into groups of 3 to 5 people, and each group will be responsible for choosing an African country that was colonized. They must create a detailed timeline from the imperialist conquest to the post-colonial period, focusing on key events, historical figures, resistances, economic, political, cultural, and social effects, as well as the current situation of the country.

Additionally, students should create a multimedia presentation (it can be a slideshow, a video, a play, a model, etc.) to accompany the timeline and help explain and illustrate the events.

This activity will require research, collaboration, creativity, and presentation skills. The project will last for one month, with each student contributing approximately 5 to 10 hours of work.

Necessary Materials

• Internet access and/or library for research.
• Presentation software such as PowerPoint, Prezi, Canva, or even video editing tools, depending on the chosen presentation format.
• Various materials for creating models or physical representations, if the group chooses this presentation format.

Step by Step

1. Group Formation and Country Selection: students should form groups and choose an African country to focus their research on.

2. Research: students should research the history of their chosen country from the arrival of European colonizers to the present, with a particular focus on the effects of imperialism.

3. Creation of the timeline: based on the research, students should create a detailed timeline of important events related to imperialism.

4. Creation of the presentation: in addition to the timeline, the group should create a multimedia presentation to accompany the explanation.

5. Review and practice: groups should review their work and practice the presentation to ensure they are well-prepared.

6. Presentation and discussion: each group will present their findings to the class, followed by a discussion and feedback from the teacher and classmates.

Final Product and Delivery

To conclude the project, each group must prepare a written document in the form of a report containing the following elements:

• Introduction: Contextualization of the project, relevance of the theme, and a brief description of the chosen country.
• Development: Detailing of the theory of imperialism, explanation of the activity carried out, the methodology used, presentation of the timeline, and discussion of the results obtained.
• Conclusion: Recap of the main points, the learnings obtained, and the conclusions drawn about the project and the impact of imperialism on the chosen country.
• Bibliography: Citation of the sources used in the research.

This report must be delivered along with the multimedia presentation.
