This is reflected in the development and expansion of disciplines such as Bioethics. By studying Bioethics, we can equip ourselves with the necessary tools to navigate this complicated ethical terrain and make informed judgments about the moral and ethical implications of scientific and technological advances.

Practical Activity 'Bioethics Colloquium'

Project Objective

The objective of this task is to promote a colloquium on key bioethical themes. Each group must choose a topic from the field of bioethics and science, conducting thorough research that will culminate in an oral presentation and a written report.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people, and each group will choose a subject of science and bioethics to investigate. Possible topics may include: ethics of cloning, ethics of human genome editing, ethics of artificial intelligence in healthcare, ethics in the use of animals for research, among others.

Students should conduct in-depth research on the chosen topic, analyzing the ethical, legal, and social implications, as well as any current debates in the field. They should seek a variety of sources of information, including scientific articles, media news, official documents from relevant organizations, among others.

Necessary Materials

Access to the internet for research, presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint), paper, and pen for notes.

Step by Step

1. Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Each group must choose a relevant topic for bioethics and science for research.
3. Instruct the groups to research deeply on the subject, addressing current discussions, ethical, legal, and social issues.
4. The groups must prepare a 15-minute oral presentation on the topic. The presentation should cover the context of the topic, the associated ethical issues, current debates, and future perspectives.
5. The groups must also prepare a detailed written report on the topic, which should include the following points: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography.
6. The groups have one month to prepare the presentation and the report.

Deliverables

Each group must deliver the following items:

1. Oral Presentation: It should last a maximum of 15 minutes and cover all the main points of the chosen topic. Each group member must actively participate in the presentation.

2. Written Report: Each group must prepare a detailed report on the chosen topic. The written report should follow the following structure:

   • Introduction: Should introduce the topic, explain its relevance, and define the research objectives.

   • Development: Should discuss in detail the historical and current context of the topic, address the ethical, legal, and social issues associated, and analyze current debates on the topic. In addition, students should highlight the methodology used for the research (i.e., how they went about researching and analyzing the topic).

   • Conclusions: Should include a discussion on what the group learned from conducting the research, what are the main conclusions that can be drawn, and what are the possible solutions or future directions for the problem.

   • Bibliography: Should list all sources consulted during the research. Sources should be cited appropriately.

The writing of the report should be clear, organized, and grammatically correct. It should clearly demonstrate the group's understanding of the topic and their ability to critically analyze the information.
