Topics such as cloning, genetic manipulation, the use of stem cells, transplants, among others, are constantly being addressed and discussed in the field of bioethics.
Furthermore, issues related to the socio-environmental impacts of scientific and technological practices are also of utmost importance. Interferences of science in the environment and their consequent effects on human and non-human communities are at the core of bioethical issues.
Context
The importance of studying Science and Bioethics lies in the need for citizens capable of understanding, evaluating, and taking a stance regarding scientific and technological advances and their ethical implications. Moreover, understanding the role of science in society, its responsibilities, and limits is essential for building a fairer and more balanced society.
The study of bioethics enables students to develop a critical and conscious stance towards scientific advances and their ethical and socio-environmental implications. For this, it is necessary to understand not only the basic concepts and principles of science and bioethics but also how they apply in real life.
Practical Activity
Activity Title: "The Impact of Science: A Bioethical Analysis"
Project Objective:
The purpose of this project is to apply the concepts of science and bioethics in the analysis of a recent scientific innovation. Students must assess the socio-environmental potential impact of this innovation, as well as address the ethical and legal issues involved. This project is aimed at groups of 3 to 5 students and should be carried out over a period of approximately 3 weeks.
Detailed Project Description:

Theme Selection: First, each group must choose a recent scientific innovation to analyze. This innovation can come from any scientific field, such as biology, medicine, psychology, technology, among others.

Research and Study: After choosing the theme, students must research and study the chosen innovation. The research should cover understanding how the scientific innovation works, its origin, the benefits, and the possible negative consequences, both for society and the environment.

Bioethical Analysis: Students must identify and discuss possible ethical issues related to the innovation, considering the principles of bioethics.

Associated Legislation: Students must investigate if there are laws or regulations associated with the scientific innovation, both at the national and international levels.

Project Presentation: The project results must be presented in a written report. Additionally, each group must give an oral presentation to the class, explaining the chosen innovation, its ethical, socio-environmental, and legal implications.
