Moreover, swimming is more than a physical activity, it is an essential life skill. It is a means to stay fit, a great way to relax, and is even used as a rehabilitation method in physiotherapy. In the competitive aspect, swimming is a complex sport with four main styles: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, each with distinct techniques and strategies.

Theoretical Introduction

Swimming is a complex activity that involves the use of almost all major muscle groups in the body. The act of swimming involves a series of technical skills, including breath control, coordination of arm and leg movements, and spatial orientation.

The study of swimming involves an understanding of the principles of hydrodynamics. That is, how the body moves through water. This covers topics such as drag, buoyancy, and propulsion, all of which are crucial for efficiency in swimming.

Finally, for the purposes of this project, it is also important to understand the history of swimming and its evolution over time. This includes the origin of swimming as a survival skill, its transformation into a competitive sport, and the development of the swimming styles we know today.

Project Objective:

The objective of this project is to investigate, through practice and theory, the complexity of swimming and the physical factors that determine its efficiency. Additionally, it aims to understand the history and evolution of swimming as a competitive sport.

Detailed Project Description:

In this project, student groups will work collaboratively to develop a deep understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of swimming. They must be willing to put into practice what they have learned during the pool sessions. The project requires students to apply physics concepts to swimming, understand the history of swimming, and ultimately produce a video documentary about what they learn.

The project should be divided into stages, with time for preparation, research, practice, and production.

Required Materials:

  1. Books and online resources for research.
  2. Access to a swimming pool for practice.
  3. Basic swimming equipment: cap, goggles, and swimsuit.
  4. Camera for video recording.
