"Realistic Literature" is a literary phenomenon that emerged in the second half of the 19th century and is characterized by representing reality objectively and critically.

Instead of escaping to an idealized world, as in Romanticism, Realism encourages readers to face reality as it is, sometimes harsh and cruel, but also rich and diverse. Realist writers seek to represent everyday life and the struggles of ordinary people, highlighting social relationships and social injustice. Realism uses precise details to describe the world around us and presents complex characters facing real dilemmas.

This project will take us on a journey through Realistic Literature, where we will explore its main characteristics, such as objectivity, representation of reality, and social criticism. We will do this through a group activity, in which we will analyze works by authors who represent this movement.

Realistic Literature is relevant in our current world because it challenges us to look at reality without filters and to question social structures. By reading realistic works, we are confronted with the inequalities and injustices of society and are encouraged to think about the changes we can make to improve the world we live in.

Furthermore, Realistic Literature has a strong presence in our culture. Many of the most influential authors in Brazilian literature, such as Machado de Assis, are representatives of this movement. Their works continue to be read and studied for their relevance and contribution to Brazilian culture and society.

Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5 people, should choose an author who stands out in the realistic movement and analyze one of their main works. The analysis should focus on the characteristics of the realistic movement present in the work, such as objectivity, representation of reality, social criticism, among others. Each group should also consider the historical context in which the work was written and how it influences the story.

Students should present their analysis in a seminar format, followed by a debate with the class. Each presentation should last at least 15 minutes.

Materials Needed:

• Internet access for research,
• The chosen literary work
• Materials for creating slides (PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.)

1. Form groups and hold an initial meeting to discuss the project guidelines and the activity schedule.

2. Choose an author and a work representative of the realistic movement for analysis.

3. Read the chosen work.

4. Conduct research on the author and the historical context in which the work was written.

5. Analyze the work, identifying the characteristics of the realistic movement.

6. Prepare a slide presentation, highlighting the main points of the analysis.

7. Present the analysis to the class in a seminar format, followed by a debate.

8. Write a detailed report on the project, containing Introduction, Development, Conclusion, and Bibliography.
