Verbs: Future Simple and Future Perfect

Contextualization

Verb tenses are one of the fundamental elements of the Spanish language and are used to express actions that occurred at different times. The simple future (Futuro Imperfecto) and the future perfect (Futuro Perfecto) are two verb tenses that play an important role in narrative construction, expressing intentions, future plans, and indicating conclusions that will have happened by a certain point in the future.

The simple future is used to express actions that will occur in a non-specific future, to make predictions, promises, or express probabilities. For example, 'Tú estudiarás mañana' (You will study tomorrow). The future perfect, on the other hand, is used to indicate an action that will have been completed at some point in the future. For example, 'Carla habrá leído el libro antes del examen' (Carla will have read the book before the exam).

Learning and correctly applying these two verb tenses is essential for communicating effectively in Spanish and understanding the complexity of temporal events expressed in the language. Whether in the interpretation of texts, in everyday conversation, or in the development of speeches and narratives, the ability to manipulate such linguistically rich structures is a gateway to understanding and producing more complex and varied discourses.

Practical Activity

Activity Title

Future Projections: The Experience of the Simple Future and the Future Perfect

Project Objective

The objective of this activity is to develop knowledge and practical application of the simple future and future perfect verb tenses in the Spanish language. In addition, the project aims to encourage teamwork, creativity, time management, and other socio-emotional skills.

Detailed Project Description

Groups will be responsible for creating a "Future Diary", where each member of the group must contribute diary entries written in the simple future and future perfect tenses.

In the "Future Diary", students will imagine their lives five years from now, describing future events using the simple future, and events that will have been completed by that time, using the future perfect. Each student must produce at least two diary entries: one using the simple future and the other using the future perfect.

In addition, groups must produce a short video narrative representing one of the events described in their "Future Diary". This production will allow students the opportunity to use the verb tenses studied orally and also in a realistic context.

Required Materials

  • Notebook or paper for the "Future Diary"
  • Pens or pencils
  • Video camera (can be a cell phone camera)
  • Internet access for research

Detailed Step-by-Step

  1. Form groups of 3 to 5 students.
  2. Each group should begin their research on the simple future and future perfect verb tenses.
  3. After completing their research, groups should begin writing their diary entries. Remember, each member of the group must contribute two entries: one using the simple future and the other using the future perfect.
  4. After completing their diary entries, groups should choose one of the events described to produce a short video narrative.
  5. Groups should plan, record, and edit their video.
  6. After completing their video, groups should prepare to present their "Future Diary" and video to the class.

The total execution time for this project should be approximately two to four hours per student, with a one-week deadline.

Project Delivery

The project deliverables should consist of the written "Future Diary", the produced video, and the class presentation.

In addition, students should submit a written report on the project:

  1. Introduction: At the beginning of the report, students should contextualize the simple future and future perfect verb tenses and explain their relevance in the Spanish language.
  2. Development: Next, students should detail the theory behind these verb tenses and describe the activity carried out, including the methodologies used to write the "Future Diary" and to produce the video. They should also present and discuss the results obtained.
  3. Conclusion: At the end of the report, students should reflect on the learning obtained from the project, focusing on its main points. They should make explicit the lessons learned and the conclusions drawn about the project. This includes reflections on the acquisition of the aforementioned technical and socio-emotional skills.
  4. Bibliography: Students should list the sources they used for their research and for the realization of the project.

The written report should complement the "Future Diary" and the video, highlighting the connection between the theory studied and the practice carried out. This writing will provide students with the chance to consolidate their knowledge, reflect on the learning process, and demonstrate their mastery of the simple future and future perfect tenses.
