Project Objective

This project aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of Modernism in its various forms and manifestations. Through intensive investigation and the creation of an original artwork, students will explore the impact of Modernism on art and society.

Detailed Project Description

This project will be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 students and should take more than 12 hours per participant to complete. The groups will choose one of the main modernist movements (e.g., Fauvism, Cubism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Futurism, etc.) and investigate the depth of its aesthetic characteristics, its main representatives, its motivations, and the impact it had on art and society.

The groups should also relate to the History discipline, exploring how the historical context influenced this artistic manifestation and how this manifestation impacted the society of the time.

Next, the groups will create an original artwork (painting, sculpture, installation, performance, or any other artistic medium) that reflects the aesthetic characteristics of the chosen movement and incorporates a contemporary perspective.

• Materials for creating the artwork: the type of material will depend on the medium chosen by the group.

1. Movement Selection: The group must choose a modernist movement to investigate. This choice should be informed by a genuine interest and a willingness to explore the movement in depth.

2. Research: The group must conduct in-depth research on the chosen movement. Students should seek to understand the aesthetic characteristics of the movement, its main representatives, its motivations, and the impact it had on art and society.

3. Artwork Planning: The group must plan and sketch their original artwork. The artwork should reflect the characteristics of the chosen movement and incorporate a contemporary perspective.

4. Artwork Creation: Using the materials they choose, students must create their artwork.

5. Writing the Written Document: Each group must write a report-style document containing the following topics: introduction, development, conclusions, and bibliography.

Project Deliverables

Students will deliver the created artwork and the written document.

The written document should address:

• Introduction: Students must introduce the chosen modernist movement, its relevance and real-world application, as well as the purpose of this project.
• Development: Students must discuss the theory behind the chosen modernist movement, explain the activity in detail, indicate the methodology used, and present and discuss the artwork created.
• Conclusions: Students must summarize their main points, explain the learnings obtained, and draw conclusions from the project.
• Bibliography: Students must indicate the sources they relied on to work on the project.
