The theme of our project will be 'Blood Groups'. This is a subject of fundamental importance in our lives and in the science of biology, being a central topic when discussing genetics and heredity.
Blood groups are classified based on the antigenic properties of blood. In humans, the most important blood groups are the ABO and Rh (Rhesus) systems. The ABO system encompasses four main types, which are A, B, AB, and O. The Rh system encompasses Rh positive and Rh negative, which defines whether we have a specific protein in our blood cells or not.
There are a series of possible combinations rules between the blood types of parents that determine the blood type of the child. This happens due to the basic laws of genetics, a field of study that was largely founded by the research of Gregor Mendel. This fact gives us another dimension of the importance of the topic, as it helps us understand how genetically similar or different we are from our parents and siblings.
Blood groups have tremendous practical importance in various areas of everyday life and health. This is evident, for example, in emergency situations where blood transfusions are necessary. In these cases, knowing a person's blood type can mean the difference between life and death. Furthermore, in the field of forensic medicine, blood type can be crucial information for criminal investigations.
In genetics and genetic counseling, understanding blood groups and their inheritance are also essential skills. Paternity and maternity can be determined based on the blood groups of parents and children. Finally, the study of blood groups can also have implications in areas such as anthropology and history, where this information can be used to trace the movement and interbreeding of human groups over time and space.

Activity Objective:
The objective of this activity is for students to delve into blood groups, understand the genetics of blood inheritance, and perform a simulation to predict the blood types of a family through generations.
Detailed Activity Description:
This activity will be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group must randomly select (for example, through a draw) two blood types to represent two progenitors, and from these initial blood types, create a genealogical tree simulating three generations of a family.
Necessary Materials:
- A3 paper
- Colored pens
- A4 paper sheets
- Computer with internet access for research.
Detailed Step-by-Step:
- Each group must draw two blood types to represent the progenitors (grandparents). These will be the first generation of the genealogical tree.
- Based on the blood types of the progenitors, students must identify the possible blood types for the next generation (parents). The group should illustrate these possibilities in the genealogical tree.
- Following the same logic, the group will now determine the possible blood types for the third generation (grandchildren).
- After building the genealogical tree, each group must research more deeply, using the recommended sources, about how blood groups are inherited and what probabilities are involved in this inheritance.
- With this, the groups must produce a detailed report of their work, which includes:
- Description of blood types, ABO and Rh systems.
- Explanation of the genetic inheritance concept applied to blood groups.
- Presentation and discussion of the genealogical tree built by the group, including the probabilities involved in the inheritance of blood groups.

It is estimated that each group member will dedicate between 5 to 10 hours to complete this project. The deadline for submission is one month from the project presentation date.
This project will allow students to practice and improve technical skills, such as: interpreting results, making predictions about genetic inheritance, understanding blood groups and genetic inheritance. In addition, socio-emotional skills will also be worked on, such as: time management, communication, problem-solving, creative thinking, and proactivity.
